In celebration of Canada's historic birthday, we've brewed up another sour red delight, this time with cherries! Aged in oak for two years, this beer is tart and puckering with bright cherry notes: the perfect beer to ring in 150 years of Canada. Tastes great while watching the fireworks.

Golden ale with cherries and their wild yeast. Altogether drinkable, though not exceptional character for what it is. I like cherries though. Cherries are good for you.

375 ml bottle purchased for $5 CDN from the brewery. Limited production run of 2,000 bottles. From the Funk Lab and listed as a cherry golden sour, has been aged in oak for two years. Served fairly cold into a chalice. Wasn't sure what to classify this as, wild yeast, sour beer, barrel aging, Belgian pale base.
Appearance - Pours the color of a strawberry smoothie, mostly red with just a little bit of a yellow hue making it pink. A finger of off-white head is poured, dissipates very quickly leaving a tiny thing ring of foam. Hazier than a strawberry (or cherry) smoothie as well.
Smell - Tart and sour smelling with plenty of cherries and maybe some rhubarb (or maybe that's just the tartness talking). Earthy and yeasty funk that comes with a good wild ale. Some balsamic too, not far off what I get with Rodenbach.
Taste - very tart, with a subtle boozy hit. Some cherries, initially tart but a thin sweetness lingers at the end. That balsamic goodness shines through here. Not a world class Belgian sour, but not far off.
Mouthfeel - Crisp and mouth puckering, carbonation is moderately spritzy and the body is fairly light. Booze is seamlessly integrated with just a hint of heat at the back of your throat although not certain if that's the tartness or the booze talking.
Overall - Really nice sour beer. Certainly worth a try while the limited stock is in play even at a heftier cost.
