Pours dark brown with a 1 finger head that dissipates quickly.
Lightly carbonated.
The noise is pleasing and sweet, maybe a bit woody.
Mouthfeel is soft and velvety.
The taste is sweet milk and dark chocolate notes, and plenty of oats. Maybe a bit of sour cherry and a woody aftertaste as well.
This beer is a solid A-

This is the perfect way to kick off New Odds 'n' Sods Beer Sunday (Week 780), at least IMHO! I was opining on hockey, CANada, CANned beer from CANada & Stouts & lo & behold … This is a real CANQuest (tm) moment, thanks to (I believe) my local, in-person trading partner, @tone77 who dropped this one off for me. If not, then I have no idea as to its origin. 8=(

From the CAN: "Our stout is a little bit cheeky. Our twist on a traditional British stout, it combines a rich, roasted body with a smooth, sweet finish. Low in ABV but high in deliciousness, it's the perfect blend of dark and light."; "Beer Down to a Science"; "Brewer's Elements[:] Malt[:] Pale Ale/Dark Chocolate/Chocolate/Roasted Barley/Carafra Special III/Crystal/Flaked Wheat/Flaked Oats[,] Hops[:] German Magnum/Centennial/Nugget[,] Yeast[:] Dry English"; "35 IBU"; "Unfiltered"; "Recommended Serving Glass: Tumbler/Nonic Pint".

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a CANparatively solid, aggro C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. This had the desired effect of creating a pseudo-cascade which resulted in the formation of just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with decent retention. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44), allowing for garnet highlights at the edges. Nose had a pleasant smoky roastiness along with the edge of bittersweet chocolate. Mmm. I was now intrigued enough to scroll down & see what Style was assigned to this gem. "AmeriCAN Stout"!?! What?!? Okay, time to look at this site's "Style Guide": "... the American Stout beer style blends generous amounts of dark malts with American hops …" Spot on, in case you wondered why I transcribed all of that info. Mouthfeel was medium & I found myself wishing for a creamier exbeerience, especially given the inclusion of flaked oats. A minor bugaboo. The taste was quite interesting - chocolaty with a mintiness from the hops as well as a bittersweetness from the specialty malts. A liquified York Peppermint Patty & I was getting a sensation! Finish tended more towards semi-dry, but I CANnot argue too strongly against semi-sweet, either. A great kick-off to Super Bowl Sunday 2020, thanks to our CANuck neighbors to the north! Slainte.

A very good stout. I prefer the lower ABV stouts.

Got this one from hopsolutely this past summer

From a 16oz can into a snifter
IBU: 35

APPEARANCE: Dark brown pour yields a small, creamy, light tan head with good retention. Clear black body with no real carbonation evident. Head fades to a faint wisp and clings to the glass. A splotchy wisp remains until the end leaving touches of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Roasted malts, coffee, oat malts, some cookie dough and dark chocolate notes on the nose. Very nice. English in style.

TASTE: Roasted malts, oats and chocolate cookies up front. Some bitterness at the swallow with a bolder and lingering finish of roasted malts, oatmeal, burnt coffee and some bitterness. A touch of cream as well.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down fine and finishes somewhat mouth-coating. A bit of bitterness lingers.

OVERALL: Good stuff. The oats work really nicely here and the malt character is well put together. Nickelbrook makes good beer and this one is certainly a good example of that. Worth checking out if you can still get it. Thanks again, hopsolutely!

Had this in a standard 473 ml Canadian pint can. It was a fairly standard stout, which is fine as I don't want or need strong coffee or chocolate flavors in my stout most of the time. It was reasonably bitter at 35 ibu with the fine roasted malt taste.

This is definitely being cheeky, I must say. It punches you with bite and flavour.

L: Root beer or cola of some kind. Very dark and imposing.
S: Nearly smells of root beer too, like that cane sugar type scent. To me, anyway.
T: Very feint molasses type flavour, with very earthy tones.
F: It's a bit harsh on the intro, but mellows out at the end. It's very nice.

Overall, it's definitely a stout, but has some porter type qualities to it. Smooth, yet aggressive. Like the uncle at the family get together, who pulls the most subtle dad jokes that no one understands until a few seconds later.

This beer is Coca-Cola coloured with a thick beige head.

The beer smells of dark malts and rich brown bread. The taste attributes are the same.

The beer is medium bodied and the finish is smooth.

All said I really enjoyed this one.
