From tasting notes dated Mar. 6/09
Bottle: Decants a hazed rusty-brown lager with a lofty 2 finger head that reduces to a thick surface cap and laces well.
Aromas are somewhat subdued but there are dark fruits, black strap, bread.
Flavor is toasty, some char/cocoa but dominated by Noble hop herbal-nutty-woody tones ....finish is anticlimactic with the hops riding out over a weak malt profile.
Not what one would expect for the style....to be fair I suspect this sample is a few months old and not as bright as a fresh sample...all the same its not a loss as I love the Tettnangers as they come forward in this brew.

On-tap at C'est What. Mahogony brown with some white head, and lots of white lace on top. Aroma is like an old ale, barleyish. Medium plus mouthfeel.Goes down as a rich bock. A little chocolate malt. A bit of burning aftertaste. Not a bad one, have had better eisbocks.

Holy f*cking mackrel, a 6% eisbock! Another triumph for Ontario brewing. You know, in most countries I thought icebock involved the removal of ice to strengthen the beer. Apparently Nickelbrook's version involves the addition of ice to water it down.
Eisbock! WTF!
Anyway, pint down at C'est What. Very dark mahogany body with a wispy cream coloured head. A few spots of lace and a filmy retention. Sweet malty aroma is subtle, but displays a touch of honey and pitted fruit. Strong raisin character with some brown sugar and astringent hopping. The sweetness is perfectly balanced out by a dry bitterness at the edges and in the warming finish. Body is medium...quite full. The carbonation is somewhat restrained. A nice sipper.
You know its way under the typical ABV for the style, but the flavour does a game job of imitating an eisbock. I wonder how they made this? Did they ice a dark mild?
