Got this one from hopsolutely this past summer
From a 500ml bottle into a snifter
Funk O Labs no.10
Brewed with chocolate pudding and fresh citrus
APPEARANCE: A dark brown, opaque pour yields a 2+ finger, bubbly, foamy, loose, Swiss cheese style head with horrible retention. No staying power. Head immediately recedes to a splotchy wisp. Black body with no real carbonation evident. A ring remains but leaves no lacing on the glass. Lighter color and ugly head.
SMELL: Roasted notes, milk chocolate, and citrus notes of red fruits on the nose. Some lemon in there as well. Decent strength. Weird but oddly interesting I guess.
TASTE: Lots of citrus, lemon and lime, grapefruit as well, with notes of milk chocolate at the swallow. Citrus heavy for sure. Decent finish of citrus lemon and lime, some barnyard funk and tartness, with a touch of chocolaty sweetness lingers on the palate. Weird and weird.
PALATE: Light body and loose carbonation. Airy and thin on the palate, bubbly, goes down okay and finishes a bit dry. Too light, airy and foamy. Not creamy at all.
OVERALL: This is weird and somewhat off-putting. The look is just ugly and the feel is lousy at best. The flavors simply clashed all over the place as well. I get the point of wanting to make a citrus style stout but if that’s the goal, then stick with hops and be wary of using actual citrus fruits. A less-than-enjoyable beer from an otherwise excellent brewery. Skip this one and try one of their better offerings. Thanks again, hopsolutely!
