Magnificent notes of bright citrus, peach, and passion fruit conquer a brew suited for the throne. Metal Head Double IPA sips smooth, but boasts bold hop strength. A double-edged sword of taste and power.

Hazy gold with a lot of yeast sediment. Good lacing. Handsome. Orange and orange pith on the nose. Noticeable flowery notes. Some burned caramel/honey as it warms. Pithy and melony to taste. Bitter finish that lingers. Drinkable.

Got this from the LCBO

From a 473ml can into a pint glass
Hops: Galaxy, Vic Secret & Elle
Yeast: Vermont Ale Yeast

APPEARNCE: Pours out a small, one finger, medium looking white head with good retention. Clear gamboge orange in color with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a solid wisp and ring. Splotchy wisp remains leaving touches of lacing on the glass as it empties.

SMELL: Caramel malts, some honeydew melon, hints of mango and bubble gum on the nose. A touch of alcohol as well. Medium strength.

TASTE: Caramel, melon and bubble gum sweetness up front and into the finish. No real tropical fruit notes, unfortunately. A bolder finish of mostly caramel and bubble gum sweetness, some piney hop bitterness and boozy alcohol linger on the palate.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down fine and finishes a touch mouth-coating. Some bitterness and heat linger.

OVERALL: This is alright but it’s a less enjoyable, boozier version of their Wicked Awesome IPA. The look is fine and feel works well enough, but the nose is simply boozier and the flavor lacks the tropical character needed in this style and simply replaces it with more booze. Not really a fan, and in the end, there’s really no need to pump Wicked Awesome up to 8.5%. It’s already wicked awesome enough. Skip this one.

A gift courtesy of my sister-in-law.

Appearance - Pours a hazy gold with two fingers of frothy white head.

Smell - citrus, tropical, and floral hops, peach, passionfruit, pineapple, citrus peel, guava, apricot, coconut, mango, bready malts, caramel. and earthy yeast.

Taste - bold citrus, tropical, and floral hops upfront. The peach, passionfruit, pineapple, citrus peel, guava, apricot, coconut, and mango come through next. The brew is rounded out from the bready malts, caramel, and earthy yeast.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with the hops and tropical fruits lingering.

Overall - An easy drinking IPA that boasts a pleasant tropical hop presence. Although I am not a fan of this citrus and tropical hop profile, the coconut adds a pleasant twist to this brew. A pleasant offering from Nickelbrook.

Look: Pours hazy golden yellow with a frothy white 2 finger head. Head fades slowly leaving plenty of lace and a solid 1/3 of a finger after 5 minutes. Sadly there is a ton of chunks floating in the mix. More even than Sparklepuff.

Smell: Super tropical. Tangerines, pineapple, orchids, lemons and limes.

Taste: Pineapple, passionfruit, canteloupe and green melon. Very tropical, with a good shot of bitterness.

Feel: Medium bodied to full bodied and round as a wagon wheel. Finishes with a nice sharp bitterness.

An aggressive hoppy juice bomb. Some might find the sediment chunks off putting, but drink it with your eyes closed and your solid. This earns a solid B+ to A-.

Pours orange with a bit of haze. The rocky eggshell head quickly dissipates but coats the glass with foam. Tropical, pineapple, passion fruit hops and breads pale malts in the nose. A big blast of tropical, resin hops in the taste. Solid malts provide good balance. The high ABV is well hidden throughout. Full bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. High bitterness and a bit of malt in the long finish.

A well executed DIPA with a lush hop profile and plenty of bitterness. Worth a try!
