I've had a couple of pumpkin Ales now & like the others, while the pumpkin aroma & flavour were definitely there in this beer, the taste they provide just tastes ... artificial. The pumpkin stands out but does not seem to balance well with other pleasant tastes in the beer the way many tastes blend together well in other beer styles I enjoy. Interesting to try; I do not plan to have it again.

Bottle of "Pie-Eyed Pumpkin Ale" picked up at the brewery several weeks ago lists 5.7% ABV.
Pours a hazy orange-amber with next to no head and minimal carbonation, despite initial hiss when opening the bottle. Mouthfeel is thinner and flatter than I'd choose. A pleasant yet mild aroma of spices and fresh pumpkin fruit, doesn't smell like liquid "pumpkin pie spice", but has cinnamon, cloves and other related elements. The flavour has those spice notes more pronounced, ending with a decent hop bitterness and a lingering spice that I can't quite pinpoint at the back of the throat. Initial caramelized malt and fruit sweetness pairs well with this Canadian Thanksgiving meal.
In short, this beer is no Naughty Neighbour or Bolshevik Bastard, but Nickel Brook is certainly a brewery in which I have great hope and I’ll keep my eyes open for any future releases.

Appearance – Hazy copper colour with a small size fizzy white coloured head. It's hard to see the carbonation level and there is a fair amount of lacing. The head lasted for around 3 minutes before it was gone.
Smell - Malts, cloves, all spice
Taste & Mouth - The beer has a low amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, brown sugar and a lot of spice. Nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and clove. I'm not getting any pumpkin though. It ends with a spicy clove aftertaste.
Overall – Just an average beer that tasted like a nut brown with some all spice stirred into it. I guess it's a serviceable fall beer if there are no better options.

On tap at the Winking Judge. Turbid orange with an off white frothy cap. Leaves some lace. Spiced nose of cinnamon and nutmeg has fruity malts and a soapy/metallic character. Sweet pie like flavour has a spicy bitterness and a drying mild bitter finish. Light medium body, creamy and surprisingly refreshing. Nice to see at the Judge.

Obtained from a friend who lives near the brewery.
Poured in to brandy snifter.
A - Medium orange colour with a very small amount of white head.
S - Pumpkin and light spices. Some cinnamon and all spice come through but not as heavy on the spices as most pumpkin ales are.
T - Pumpkin flavour and light spices (follows the nose). Some cinnamon comes though along with some cloves but they are very subdued. A nice change from the average pumpkin beer.
M - Light body with a very slight chew. Lightly carbonated.
D - A very enjoyable and somewhat different example of the style.
