Got this one at the De Molen bottle shop in Bodegraven. Apparently these guys disagree with how kopi coffee beans are produced and have decided not to use them in their beers from now on.
From a bottle into a snifter
Bottled 13 September 2013
24 plato
APPEARANCE: Pours out dark brown and yields a half finger, medium looking, fluffy light tan head. Bistre brown, almost black body with a touch of carbonation evident. Relatively clear body for the style. Head fades to a wisp and ring. A splotchy wisp remains leaving some dots of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Strong coffee aroma with sweet cream and vanilla on the nose. Burnt coffee and caramel with some roasted grain and light touches of chocolate. Lots of coffee and sweet cream here.
TASTE: Roasted coffee beans with lots of sweet cream up front. Big finish of burnt coffee beans, bitter coffee and chocolate, with some caramel sweetness lingering on the palate. Burnt and bitter coffee, chocolate and sweet vanilla cream. Really good and well balanced. Lots of character.
PALATE: Medium-fuller body with medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough, goes down fine and finishes a touch drier than the other variants. Good feel.
OVERALL: This is really good. One of the better coffee imperial stouts out there, and if it weren't for the issues surrounding the brew, it's one I'd gladly see done again. Really nice, complex flavors with a good feel to support it all. Quality stuff. Recommended for sure.
