sweet, even too sweet, even for a BW.. Boozy, way too much booze in aroma and taste. Just like hard alcohol abv. ALtogether not a great De Molen. Thanks Alex.

Bottle. Teku. Deep amber with small to medium, dirty white head. Poor head retention, medicore lacing. Heavy malty aroma, mainly caramel and brown sugar, but also candy-like, toffee. Medium tropical and dried fruits aromas. Taste is mainly sweet caramel-like, but not so sweet. Medium to full body, sticky texture, soft carbonation, very nice and velvety, little alcohol warming, finish is medium and malty. In overall malty-packed barley wine with well hidden alcohol and nice hoppy aromas.

Got this one at the De Molen beer shop in Bodegraven.

Dry hopped with amarillo, cascade, mozaic and citra
APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, medium looking, creamy, off-white head with great retention. Clear maroon red in color with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full wisp and really coats the top of the glass with lacing. A full wisp remains until the end leaving lots of wonderful lacing down the glass. Looks just beautiful for the style.
SMELL: Caramel, toffee and red fruits for sure, some melon, as well as a nice dose of citrus and grapefruit from the American dry hopping. Really nice and bold. Good stuff.
TASTE: Sweet toffee and caramel at the beginning with notes of grassy and somewhat soapy hops at the swallow. Bolder finish with plenty of sweet malts and hop flavor. Caramel, toffee, melon sweetness with grassy and citrus flavors linger on the palate. A touch of bitterness fights through for balance.
PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough, goes down fine and finishes a bit mouth coating. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: Drank this one after Practig & Machtig and enjoyed this one much more. The sweet malt flavors and the citrusy American hops just make for a more interesting brew to my palate. This one was also a little bolder and had more character I thought. A really nice b-wine that is absolutely beautiful to look at too. Get it if you see it. Recommended.
