8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG.
This beer appears a murky, dark reddish amber colour, with one skinny finger of wispy, and loosely foamy off-white head, which leaves a bit of Klingon transmission lace around the glass as it quickly abates.
It smells of sour, funky yeast, mild white cheese, grainy caramel malt, and leafy, weedy noble hops. The taste is rather funky and tart red orchard fruit, middling earthy yeast, grainy caramel malt, and the same understated earthy, weedy hops from the nose.
The carbonation is perky, to a point, the body a decent medium weight for the all over the place style, and more smooth than I might have imagined. It finishes still moderately sour, the sassy fruitiness presiding over any lingering inherent malt notes.
A pleasant enough sour fruity ale, the funk kept to a bare minimum, after all is said and done. These guys (?) make a lot of this sort of stuff, and do it well, for the most part.
