I tasted this beer at the brewery during a tasting session of all the beers they produce. This was the first beer and was supposed to get the average lager drinker to try a special beer. So the beer taste and mouthfeel should come close to a lager.
Appearance was murky, orange/amber colored with a nice stable head and carbonation matched a pilsener.
Smell was fruity, but still clean. Some caramel notes and there was a sort of smoky flavour.
Taste was slightly fruity, not very bitter and some caramel notes. The most striking was the emptiness of the beer, which is similar to a pilsener. Unfortunatelly this beer is out of balance, having too much complexity without the appropriate body.
I think this will be a good beer for the typical lager drinker, but for me it is not special enough.

Bottle-conditioned in a short-neck 330ml brown bottle. BB 28/09/06, served lightly-chilld in a broad-rimmed goblet.

A: dark orangey-honey hue, slightly hazy, coming with a frothy white beer head settling to a thin blanket on the top; moderate and constant carbonation.
S: sweet orange-like citrus fruits upfront, while a chewy and raw grainy note (like roughly crushed malts and beans) plus a faint touch of calcium pill make up a solid backbone. A little hint of spice (white pepper) and vegetation at the back--quite timid, but by no means unpleasant. As it warms up, the aroma turns more pronounced, reminiscent of some less malty but more spicy Belgian pale ales.
T: the ever-so-soft bready malt caresses the tongue; simultaneously, a mild lemony+orangey-flavour of hops along with a slowly magnifying spicy+woody yeastiness creep up at a piecemeal pace... a slightly warmish and soothing aftertaste mixed with pleasant touches of noble hops. Finished rather clean, w/o signs of an overall hop or malt aftertone.
M&D: the mouthfeel is perhaps the strongest point of this beer: with the help of gentle and creamy fizziness, the texture really is soothing throughout. Alas, the efforts on harmonious and soft flavour are made at the expense of a clearer theme. Besides, I'm not sure if it's Belgian Dark Ale, as it surely lacks those roasted malty flavours imparted to dark ales, and the perfumy elements of Belgian ales are quite restrained here (if any). I think it deserves a place of its own. A quality yet very understated ale, worth slow sips.

BB 12-04-07. Nice and very well lasting head and a bronze/amberbeercolor. Nose is odol/gully like and very unfresh. Some nice caramel and maltarome with koreander and hops noticeable. To bad this sewersmell is on it too, so alltogether not too impressed. Taste is a lot better though being nicely caramellic, full maltyness but having a litle metallic taste and hanging bitterness to influence mouthfeel negative.
Drinkable but seen better of this brewery.

Edit 5-5-06: sampled BB 28-09-2006 and was much better and though older much fresher and realy enjoyed this one now thoug maybe bit overspiced.
