Jet black with a dense latte-colored head that dissipated pretty quickly and left moderate lacing.
Smell is lighter than expected given the taste. Roasted coffee with chocolate notes. A hint of Savory I can’t put my finger on.
Taste is interesting. Like a straight forward milk stout with some saltiness but not in a bad way. It all works well. Like chocolate milk with a pinch of salt.
Mouthfeel is really thick and oily.
Overall a really solid stout with a slight curve that makes it unique and worth trying.

Served in a goblet from the bottle.
Appearance Thin black body with a tan head rising roughly quarter of an inch off the body. Semi sticky lacing and settles quick after two or three sips.
Smell: Light brown sugar which came off slight warm with touch of coffee bean. It's strong but light if you know what I mean.
Taste: Tasty brew with touch of salt and brown sugar. So you're getting sweet and salty with hard hints of malt and barley.
Mouth: Sticky with a thin body. Smokey a bit but it's more woody than anything else at the end.
Overall: Gem worth grabbing again, could use some tweaking but honestly it's good the way it is. Salud!

Poured into a tulip glass on tap at Buddies Beer in Jinqiao, Shanghai, China.
A: This beer is a pure black color with no light shining though anywhere. The head is tan and so creamy it almost looks like pudding. Latte froth consistency head sticks around a while and is one of the best I've ever seen.
S: Mocha smell with lots of roasted malt and a savory, almost soy sauce, note that lives up to the beer's name.
T: Sweeter than I expected from a beer titled "umami." Strong milk chocolate character with a slight roastiness. Booze is hidden nicely but still present as a slightly warming note in the back. Whiskey-like note with a slight dark rum. A bit of soy aftertaste.
F: Velvet smooth with just a slight carbonation, but silky going down.
Overall: A very good stout, and one of the best-looking I've ever had. I wouldn't call it "umami" like the sign suggests, more on the sweet side. Taste and smell are more typical but very on-point for the style. A really good beer. Glad I found this one.
