Pours a pitch black coloration with a large, creamy, mocha-colored, lasting head. Smells of slightly roasted, caramel malt and a somewhat floral and fruity chili note, as well as hints of coffee and chocolate. Taste is dominated by slightly roasted, caramel malt and a rather hot chili note that I didn't expect from the nose, but still carries hints of those floral/fruity notes, as well as quite a bit of coffee and lighter notes of chocolate and licorice. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and quite a bit of chili heat lingering on the tongue long after the swallow. Full mouthfeel with a rich body and light/medium carbonation.
The rather mellow, floral/fruity nose really belies an intense chili heat here that doesn't feel one-dimensional though, being backed up by some rather nice roasted malt and coffee/espresso notes as well as hints of chocolate and licorice. Fantastic beer if you can stand the chili heat, I would just LOVE to try the BA variants with even hotter peppers than this one!

Served in an over sized wine glass from the bottle.
Appearance: Thin dark bodied beer resembling a cross between between a porter and stout. Tan head rising half a fingers length off the body. Quick settling after two sips with almost no lacing on the glass.
Smell: Deep mocha and coffee bean, it's a touch light but the smell is appetizing.
Taste: First off its spicy. Very special type of spicy that is offset with notes of chocolate and espresso.
Mouth: Sticky pepper, Malty finish and might just be my favorite characteristic of the beer. Medium to full carbonation and definitely full bodied.
Overall: Descent beer. It's definitely an acquired taste considering the heavy spicy feel which I know some people feel that it takes away from the beer. Always in a glass and enjoy. Salud!
