Pours a pitch black coloration with a medium, creamy, mocha-colored head. Smells of slightly roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and dark fruits, with a good bit of peat coming through as well. Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramel malt, dark, bitter chocolate and peat smoke, with some dark fruits: raisin, plum and licorice, leather and just a hint of vanilla and herbal hops coming through as well. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some roasted malt and peat smoke lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a rich body and light/medium carbonation.
This is an excellent entry-level Scotch BA Imperial Stout that does have that peatiness to it, which is not excessive here though, while this generally features a nice, mellow balance of roasted, bitter, sweet and smokey elements. Mouthfeel could be fuller, but is really not too bad.
