hazed red-amber beer. Sharpish sourish nose, and aromas as from ginger, lavender, pine and cookies. Very imposing spicy flavours - it’s nearly unbelievable this beer isn’t spiced. Woody character, biscuit and faraway restsweetness, warming up becoming more chocolatey. No carbonation - second time. Rather well-bodied, obvious alcoholburn. Again one that seems a bit off.

On tap at De Molen in Bodegraven. From notes.

A - Poured with a fluffy two finger eggshell head on a dark gold body. Cloudy. Amazing head retention but no lacing to speak of.

S - Yeast, orange peel and some fairly aggressive hops. Not a whole lot of breadth here.

T - Yeasty and lot's of hop fruitiness. Very yeasty. Very much 'red' as odd as that sounds. Like a good amber or red ale. Sweet towards the end. Not too bad.

M - Mild carbonation and a medium to full body. Slightly bitter in the finish.

O/D - Not too bad but nothing to write home about. It got better as it opened up. Seems like the alcohol doesn't need to be so high for a red ale. That said, I couldn't find any hint of 9.5% in the flavour profile which is no easy thing to do.

Deep orange in colour with a rather big off-white head, a lot of yeast in suspension and very fine carbonation.

Aroma is heavy and full, with caramel-like malt and yeast being main factors, but also with hops and a fruity accent (oranges) shining through. A buttery touch is prevalent as well.

Taste is more or less the same, but is even more pronounced and gives a bit more exposure to hops. The finish is bitter and dry.

This brew has a rather thick texture and a weak carbonation, turning this into another bulky and heavy beer (tending towards a barley wine) by De Molen.
