Jan. 2011: Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV 11.2%. Black colour, big to moderate tan head. Oaky and vinous aroma, also notes of dark malts, leather, chocolate and coffee. The flavour has overall the same elements as the aroma. Excellent beer!

Look: The beer pours a black color with a relatively long lasting brown colored head.
Smell: Lots of chocolate roasted coffee (malts), and fruit, vanilla and lots of bourbon.
Taste: Full and sweet flavor, with liquorice, chocolate, oak, dark fruits and bitter coffee aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and medium carbonation
Overall: More than a decent beer, would definitively drink this more often.

Bought at de Struise bottle shop.
Brewed 16 December 2009.
Bottled 13 May 2010.
Bottle 1949 of 2040.
A - Pitch black and opaque with some yeast balls suspended. Some mild
visible. Good two finger, fluffy, tan head. A streak of lacing is left but there is a good cap of half a finger throughout.
S - Really strong chocolate aroma. Slightly medicinal. Whisky and vanilla.
A little grape and wood. Most of the stout element is based on the chocolate
sweetness. Not too bad.
T - Some booze. Lot's of licorice. Licorice allsorts come to mind with some really strong chocolate notes. Not alot of coffee at all. Vanilla and cappucino come to mind. Slightly milky? Sticky dark candy like a toffee or chewy caramel is there too. Not very roasty. Warming alcohol and that barrel element are there too. Good.
M - Thick. Full, chewy body. Mild carbonation and a lasting sweet, boozy but not burning finish.
O/D - Not a world class Imperial Stout but tasty. Could use less alcohol and more than simply the barrel characteristics but I think the use of two different types of barrel added to the complexity of this. Good.

Got this at De Bierkoning in Amsterdam. Imperial stout aged in bourbon and bordeaux casks.
From an 18cl bottle into a snifter
Brewed 16 December 2009
Bottled 13 May 2010
Bottle 792 of 2040.
OG: 1110
FG: 1028
APPEARANCE: Pours a small medium-looking mocha colored head that quickly fades to a thin wisp and a ring. Dark brown pour bit sits basically black in the glass. A ring remains with a nice splotchy floating wisp but leaves no lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Roasted malts, smoky elements, and some dark cherries perhaps. Touches of bourbon and vanilla from the barrels as well. A nice, enticing, and bold nose on this one.
TASTE: Roasted malts and lots of bourbon notes in there. More so than the nose has suggested. Whisky, vanilla and oak as well. A boozy finish on this, with a bold and lingering roasted, caramel, and bourbon influenced aftertaste. Lots of bourbon in this one.
PALATE: A little lighter on the palate than hoped, with a medium body and higher levels of carbonation. Creamy, goes down smooth with a bit of a burn at the end, and finishes slightly mouth-coating. Average at best here.
OVERALL: A decent beer overall. A little heavy on the bourbon perhaps, but it works out alright. A slightly thicker and heavier palate would help this one, but it doesn't detract from its appeal. Give it a chance if you find it. Would drink again.
