Deep, dark, crimson, rose, cherry wood brown, cloudy and opaque, an intense-looking fruit beer that might be confused with (and might be) a Flanders red. The nose is chock full of ripe cherries, blackberries, blackcurrants, and some intense funk - barnyard, fresh hay, and goat cheese. Musty but plummy, like good Brie and quince paste in a glass. Notes of cola come through as well. The flavor is funky and, for a fruit beer, more beer than fruit, with notes of cocoa and morello cherry colliding with dandelion and burdock, vanilla, creme fraiche, brandy, toasted marshmallow, and a touch of lemon. Oddly, there are lactic, acetic, and citric flavors but not much outright acidity. An odd duck and a hot mess, but probably perfect for a ripe, stinky cheese.
