Copenhagen 26/11 2023. 33 cl waxed bottle from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb. F. Dark brown label with white and burgundy letters.
Pours opaque dark brown with a small off-white head. Settles as thin patches of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is intense with a strong, sugary sweetness mingling with dark liqueur. Brown sugar, toffee, honey and molasses. Licorice. Wooden alcohol of the sweet variety.
Light carbonation. Rather thick, oily, viscous, fat, almost flat texture.
Flavor is intense with a strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong sourish bitterness. Aftertaste is surpringly bitte with a sweet undertone. Lingering. Finish is semi-dry with a boozy sear.
Potent and sweet nose and a boozy and surpringly strong bitterness.

Imperial stout barrel aged in port barrels
APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a two finger, medium looking, foamy and crackly, light tan head with good retention. Bistre brown body with lots of carbonation evident. Head slowly recedes to a full, creamy cap and clings to the glass. Splotchy wisp remains leaving lots of lacing on the glass as it empties. A little lighter in color for the style.
SMELL: Plenty of grapes on the nose, with an obvious red wine aroma, some woody notes, and hints of vanilla and caramel as well. Lots of port and wood here.
TASTE: Red wine and port for sure, plenty of it up front, with woody flavors, dark grapes and some alcohol at the swallow. This is very port heavy for sure. Bold finish is full of wine, dark grapes, some light hints of vanilla and milk chocolate, with a solid boost of booze linger on the palate. This is very port forward and oaky.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy on the palate, soft and smooth, goes down fine with a bit of a scratch and finishes a touch astringent on the palate. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: This is quality stuff. If you like port barrels, or red wine barrels for that matter, this will definitely do the trick. The ageing is obvious, though I’d say the stout is a little less forthcoming. I’d prefer a little more roasted character to my barrel aged stouts, so I’d have to say this one doesn’t quite do it for me. Still, a quality brew that will definitely satisfy any port barrel craving you might have. Cheers!
