Bottle shared at Klooster. Pitch black pour with a tan head. Nites of roasted malts, cherries, caramel, chocolate. Medium to full body, low carbonation and a roasty bitter-sweet finish.

Sept 5th 2012 bottling poured into a matching de molen snifter. 12oz bottle poured hard appears black with less than a finger of silky khaki cap that fades leaving spotty lace.
Has a pleasant aroma that is mostly centric to alcohol. Soft milk chocolate and almost something like brine fill out the rest of the nose. As it warms up a touch of vanilla/caramel barrel character emerges.
Tastes boozy with soft oxidation. Slightly fruity and fusel almost like vodka soaked raisons. Not much roast. Once it opens up, the cognac/brandy character comes out with mild vinous flavoring.
Medium in body with modest carbonation. Overall not bad. Big and boozy but without all that much barrel nuance and pretty linear feeling.

First released at the 2012 Borefts Festival in Bodegraven. Was lovely on tap, but took me a while to get a shot at a bottle of it. Thanks for bringing out the N&O set a while back Doopie!
From a bottle into a snifter
Bottled 5 September 2012
Drunk after the base beer
APPEARANCE: Pours out black and a cascading effect yields a one finger, tight looking, creamy tan head with great retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full, creamy wisp, though only a half wisp remains leaving no real lacing down the glass. No foaming on this one like the base beer did. Looks thicker, darker, and much more menacing. Much better head as well.
SMELL: Nice cognac notes with vanilla, caramel and toffee notes, milk chocolate and some smokey, roasted aromas. Quite nice, and the cognac barrel is well represented here.
TASTE: Follows the nose nicely. Lots of nice cognac with oak, vanilla and milk chocolate from the barrels up front. Sweet caramel and toffee notes at the swallow, with a bold lingering finish of cognac, milk chocolate, sweet vanilla and alcohol from the impressive ABV. Lots of flavor, and the cognac barrel really steals the show.
PALATE: Medium-full body with lower levels of carbonation. Creamy and heavy enough on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes rather sticky. A bit of a burn and some heat lingers on the palate. Much like the base beer with a tad less carbonation in the feel. Big and bastardly.
OVERALL: An excellent cognac barrel imperial stout. De Molen can knock them out of the park sometimes, and this is a great example of that. Piles of nice barrel flavors with a big, thick, heavy feel to carry it all. I think I'd like to see a little more of the base beer show up for top marks here, but this is a wonderful treat as it is. Thanks for sharing Doops; this was excellent stuff.
