Tis the season to celebrate, as we wrap up 2014 with the gift of a double IPA. Caramel and midnight wheat malts lend a festive reddish hue, while a Santa-sized triple dry-hop with Chinook and Simcoe™ delivers flavor and aroma by the sleighful. A dose of holiday cheer that belongs under your tree – whether you’ve been naughty or nice.

I feel like this one was typical for the entire IPA of the month series. None of them absolutely blew my socks off, but most of them were solid to very good. Nice job Foothills for this series, those guys can definitely brew some ipas.

Poured golden with a thin lacing of white head. In aroma, biscuit malt with nice floral hops and grapefruit, nice and smooth. In mouth, a nice sweet biscuit malt with loads of hops and tropical fruit. Only drawback I felt it started to fall a little flat in taste after first glass

Poured from a bomber into a shaker glass, the beer is a hazy, opaque, orange brown coloring with a steady flow of carbonation through the body, and a clingy, sparse, off white head. Aromas of tangy sweet caramel, tart citrus including lemon zest and orange rind, evergreen and pine tassel, with hints of mint and rich resinous hops character. Flavors are a citrus blast forward, heavy in orange and pomelo, with a toasted grain and bready backbone, ribbons of evergreen and vegitation, and hints of dank hops resin. Smooth and light, on an effervesced body, with a citrusy tart aftertaste. The finish is frothy and dry, with lingering notes of orange and grapefruit. Tasty beer.

Appearance: Arrives with a hazy copper color and a very modest head; not much lacing action even with a swirl
Smell: Tropical fruit (pineapple), caramel and a lot of pith
Taste: Bread and caramel tones lay down the backbone and the pithy grapefruit and pineapple flavors add bitterness through the middle; after the swallow, the bitterness increases though there are some sweeter tropical tones in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A big and bold way to finish out the series; for my palate, there was a bit too much going on with the malts relative to the hops but I prefer my IPAs clean and dry
