Session Brown Ale

Pours a moderate brown color with a single finger cream colored head and a bit of lacing. The nose is mild bread and caramel along with a small amount of earthy hops. Taste is slightly sweet bread with a tad bit of roast. Good feel and drinkability. A session beer indeed.

Had this on tap at the brewpub with lunch the other day. Came out a dark brown with a thin tan head on top. Little lace sticks to the glass. Nothing much going on here. Scents of light toffee, and some grains. Not much in this category either. The body is crisp and smooth. Good feel to it. Flavor is highly bitter to the extent it's a bit harsh. Definitive hop presence, but there is no sweet balance that I expect from the style. No toffee, no sweet malts, nothing. This was weird. I think this is the worst beer I've had from these guys. Session beer? I think not, I could hardly finish one.

Served on draft at the brewery in Winston Salem, NC. Pours a clear grape color with a foamy and rich white head. Quite stiff and a copious amount of lacing veils the glass.

Aroma is very slightly caramelly and metallic. Not much going on in the aroma.

This one is a bit bitter. This session brown ale is pretty aggressively hoped because the bitterness is on the really high end. I might say this one is a bit unbalanced with the high bitterness and low malty, bready flavors. I like the bitterness but this one is at the very end of the bitterness scale for the style. Pungently bitter.

Really dry finish and bitter in the super long finish. This one lingers on the tongue for about two minutes.

I have mixed opinions on this one. This one is really bitter, which I like, but certainly isnt within style guidelines. The malt and caramel are hidden and the mouthfeel is a bit thin. The alcohol is quite light which makes this one easily drinkable, but again, the bitterness. I guess this is more like a "indian brown ale lite" or something.
