Enjoyed this one while in New Orleans after going jazz club hopping for the evening in the French Quarter! Served from growler into a taster flute multiple times. Poured golden yellow with a half finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, citrus, onion, onion hop, earth, earth hop, and grass. The flavor was of sweet malt, onion, onion hop, pepper, earth, grass, and earth hop. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a good brew. There was really quite a bit of stuff going on in this one. I was actually really surprised when I found the onion aspect going on here, but it seemed to work fairly well with all of the earthiness going on. There was no sign of the raised ABV compared to Jade or Baby Jade that I’ve had in the past which is always welcomed. Really glad I got the chance to try this one finally and suggest you do the same if you get the opportunity.

Appearance: Arrives with a orange-tinged amber color capped by an inch of foam; a few strands of lace are led behind

Smell: Floral grapefruit galore

Taste: Bursts with floral grapefruit flavor bringing just a hint of the malt base underneath; the more the liquid settles on the tongue, the more grapefruit is delivered to the taste buds

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation.

Overall: An extraordinary DIPA and the best example of the style that I have tasted among the NC brewed offerings; not to be missed when it is available

A: pours a hazy orange with a finger of off-white head that fades into a thin ring with little lacing

S: grapefruit dominates with pineapple, orange, and resinous pine aromas following.

T: grapefruit and citrus rind up front with resinous pine and earthy flavors following. Lightly bitter finish. Very nicely balanced.

M: medium body and carbonation, this beer is nice and drinkable.

O: a good DIPA. Delicious and well balanced all around.

Their newest in the "Jade-series." A big, ballsy amped-up version of their Jade IPA. Tap pour into their footed "imperial" glass. A hazy pour that resembles a Hefe with a cloudy honey-gold. Decent foam on top. Little retention. The nose on this is nothing short of amazing. Big juicy hops, pine, citrus - all at such a potent level, it's hard for me to take my nose out of this beer.

You want bitter? Then this is the beer for you. A total palate-wrecker. This is nothing like their Seeing Double which balances the sweet/bitter character quite well. This one is bitter to the max! Fresh citrus rind, green hop cones - this beer burns and burns well. Not an everyday DIPA in my book, but one I would revisit for sure. Nice work, Foothills, I love what you're doing with the new stuff!
