Bottle thanks to HogtownHarry- A hazy orangey pour with a generous creamy off white foam. Leaves a bit of spotty lace. Aromas of mild smoked malts, tropical fruit, banana, spices, clove. An earthy flavour profile has smoke malts, a sweet fruitiness, with banana, and apricot, a bit of spice. Very creamy, well balanced, quite drinkable. I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. Excellent stuff. Thanks Harry!

Bottle consumed 24 months after its release: Poured a light golden color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of caramel malt is quite sublime with no traces of smoke. Taste is dominated by great caramel malt with hints of dry fruits; smoke has totally disappeared and been replaced by some complex malt. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no signs of alcohol. Not the beer I was expecting but I must admit that this has turned extremely well.

750mL bottle purchased from, where else, Marche Joanette. Purchased in February, consumed on Father's Day in June. It seems to have held up just fine. Pours a nice cloudy light-to-medium gold with quite a bit of carbonation. Aroma is a bit light, but is smoky and wheaty. So far, so good. The flavour is very nice. The smoke is present throughout the taste, neither light nor over-the-top. Less wheaty than a typical wheat beer. Less smoky than the Aecht Schlenkerla. But it all comes together very nicely. I wish there were more examples of this style available.

Muddled, deeply burnished gold body, with a classic billowing white head, which descends to a fin latticework. Lightly smoked meat smell. No shit...this is from Montreal? Call Schwartz's. Pleasant meaty flavour with the smoke perfectly balanced, and a bready heartiness thanks to the wheat. It reminds me a little of lightly cooked smoked bacon, while my lovely lady wife picks out smoked turkey. The mouthfeel is medium light, and I think could do with being a little bit heavier to match the chewiness of the flavour profile, but that's a minor gripe. Restrained carbonation is short-lived on the tongue. Very good drinkability, and I think maybe even better done than the schlenkera.

Pours a hazy deep gold into a sample glass. Mild to moderate smoke aroma that overwhelms any wheat characteristics that might be in there. Flavour is good, but light, with lots of smoke and a bit of tang from the wheat. Slightly weak mouthfeel for my liking.

A: Hazy, brownish straw, white head, very little retention or lace.

S: Smokey, light spice, cotton-candy esters, light wheatyness.

T: Pleasant smokeyness, bready, wheat, tropical fruit. Pleanty of flavour for its weight.

M: Light to moderate body, moderate carbonation, slight acidity.

D: Quite drinkable.

The Welcome beer at our quarterly gathering. Greatly sessionable and one of the most drinkable smoked beers I have had. A moderate smoke and medium mouthfeel, lagerish and pleasant, with some wheat-like creaminess. Suitably carbonated. Small crown head on a slight brownish yellow, good lacing.

750 ml corked bottle.

The pour produces a clouded honey colored beer with another massive sticky cap that laces the glass.

Aroma of smoked biscuit malts, spices and fruits, some woodyness and musty tones.

Profile: Smoke is present but does not dominate there is ample earthy grains, spoiled fruits and leafy-woody hops in almost perfect balance to make this a wonderful 3 dimensional experience...lightly drying finish with a light smokey-biscuit aftertaste.

Creamy mouth feel, ample body and a perfect balance of smoke-malt-hops.

I’ll take this over Schlenkerla any day for drinkability and balance. Another German style carried off authentically but well by this great Quebec brewer.
