Spring 2009 edition, no longer called pathos. Pours a reddish brown with a foaming white head of generous dimensions. Malty aroma, with a richness and a bit boozy. Above average mouthfeel. It is a rich malting that leads to a taste climax of much sweetness. The bomber must be shared.

2007 Bottle via Glouglouburp, pours a very dark mahogony brown with a frothy head. Nose- pumpernickel bread, honey, dark fruits. Taste- slight roast, raisins and thick dark bread with a touch of caramel. Finishes relatively dry, but no booziness. Relatively thick mouthfeel. Very nice dopplebock- a sturdy drink on a blustery winterpeg night!

2007 bottle by way of glouglouburp...

pours a clear dark garnet brown color capped by a large tan head.

super malty aroma is very rich... chocolate, toasted salted cashews, mild vanilla pod, wood and grassiness.

the palate is definitely straight up sweet though somehow not disgustingly... lots of malt, chocolate, toasted brown sugar candied nuts, buttery caramel, wood and faint notes of coffee. saltiness/umami and warming spiciness on the finish. rich caramel-y aftertaste. alcohol vapors pour out of me as the brew warms and adds another layer of depth and spice. it's quite welcome as it helps to break up some of the stickiness. medium body with a soft creamy mouth feel and thick richness from sugars.

750 ml bottle I got in Quebec. 2007 vintage. Poured into a nice stein.

A: Poured a nice dark brown, almost black. When held to the light a nice sunburst of amber spikes through. The head was a nice light tan that was almost two inches high. Had some great retention and some really nice, sticky lacing. Notched the glass all the way down.

S: Smell is of some really nice, heavily roasted malt, caramel, espresso beans, dark german chocolate. Very nice.

T: Tast is once again heavy in the realm of roasted malt and coffee flavor. Chocolate lingers with caramel and a nice nougat flavor. This is a rich bitch.

M: Medium to full in body. Really sticky in the mouth. Aftertaste is of some dark, slightly bitter chocolate and nougat that lingers on your tongue so a very long time. Slight alcohol heat touches the back of your throat and warms you all the way down.

D: This a great beer. It is over 80 degrees right now and this is not the greatest choice for a summer night, but it went down easy and nicely. No problem polishing off this 750 and my only regret about this beer is not bringing back more of them. Worth checking out if you can get a hold of it.

Vintage 2007

Pours clear mahogany with a ruby tinge.
Beige foam of a half-inch receded to stringy lacework and a skim coat of fine carbonation.
Aromatics are laced with juicy malt, chocolate, and shadows of bourbon. A hint of tannins and vanilla give a barrel-aged impression.
Very rich and complex.
The mouthfeel is medium, sticky, and creamy. Lush.
Cocoa with fresh, doughy malt lead off the pallet, with warming alcohol stepping forward quickly.
Hints of oaky tannins still apparent, as well as whiskey-like fusels.
Finishes with lingering caramel, rich malt, and a nint of noughat.

An incredibly tasty, complex take on a Dopplebock.

Bottle: Poured a deep brown color bock with a nice foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of semi-sweet malt with some notes of banana and cloves. Taste is also dominated by some cloves and banana ester with an excellent grain bill. Full body with a creamy texture and good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Probably one of the best that I have tasted form this brewery.
