Bottle: Poured a black color porter with a small dark brown foamy head with limited retention and light lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt with some orange notes from the Grand Marnier barrels. Taste is a mix of chocolate notes with some orange notes form the Grand Marnier barrels with some residual sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and faint warming alcohol notes. Enjoyable version of this classic with barrels adding another dimension.

Review #400 after 11 ish years.
A: Pours a pitch black color with a nice mocha colored head. Sadly, the head has very little retention nor lacing.
S: Strong intensity smell. The Grand Marnier notes are quite evident with strong citrus notes with oranges and marmalade. A little bit of figs and raisins from the brandy. The base beer notes are very much in the background of this one with light notes of cocoa, coffee, leather and red fruits.
T: High intensity taste. The attack is all Grand Marnier with the marmalade and very sweet orange juice. Then, the beer morphs into the one we know in the aftertaste with big milk chocolate, coffee, leather and vanilla. Although it does taste good, it isn't a very coherent beer.
M: Not as heavy as expected or "required" by the genre. But, with the very fruity presentation, it isn't too bad.
O: This is definitely a good beer. But, I do prefer the "normal" base beer to this one. This one lacks coherency and I would highly recommend people to age this one at least 6 months.
