A: Pours the usual pitch black color with a tan colored head. Retention and lacing are both pretty good.
S: Strong smell. Straight out you get a tone of raisins, prunes, marmalade, vanilla, oak and leather from the cognac barrels. Then, the base beer shows through with strong notes of cocoa, pour-over coffee and red berries.
T: Strong taste too with lots of raisins, prunes, marmalade, vanilla, solid oak spice and a tiny amount of leather from the cognac barrels I suppose. Then, you get the delicious strong dark chocolate, coffee and red berries. Long long warm aftertaste.
M: Medium to heavy body with medium to low carbonation. It does have a little bit more carbonation than expected and I would have loved a touch less of it, but it still is excellent.
O: This is an excellent beer. You can definitely see that the base beer is excellent and the cask paring is also excellent. It doesn't just enhance the beer, it actually makes a new one. Big big fan of this one.
