Pours a hazy dark orange amber. Two finger large bubble off-white head dissipates slowly, leaving a ring but no lacing. Strong aroma of orange, banana and other light fruits, vanilla and Belgian spicing. Flavor is very sweet, complex fruits including peach, banana, orange and apple. Sweet malt and fruit finish with a hop and spice bite. Apple juice aftertaste. Very light hop presence. Reminiscent of a Belgian dubbel with wheat elements. Alcohol noticeable. This is a two year old bottle. Miscategorized on Beer advocate as a "pale wheat ale". This doesn't remotely resemble anything in that style. The self described imperial weizen seems spot on. Interesting and fun to drink.

I had this in cellar for over a year (I figure this is why my review is pretty different from the others).

Look ~ pours a dark straw to nice gold. totally opaque. head is good: rises large off a hard pour, very white, soapier than I'd've thought, falls slowly with some nice lacing.

Smell ~ I don't get any too much clove or banana, like a german Weizen. instead, I get a lot of fruitiness and a yeast profile much more similar to a belgian brew. malts have characteristics of wheat graininess and some pitted fruit-like notes (apricot). a lot of floral and perfumy smells, balanced well by spice (pepper and some clove) and decent helping of goatiness / barnyard there. these balance out the sweetness well.

Taste ~ all the same characters as the nose, but with different strengths. The maltiness is a bitter stronger, with a bit more of the apricot fruitiness I noted on the nose. The overall backbone is still lighter and grainy. The yeasty flavor is a little more on the brett and barnyard like flavor is a bit stronger than the spices of pepper and clove. Some nice floral perfuminess, like high alcohol, on the finish. A bit of bitterness, but no real hop flavor.

Feel ~ lighter body and higher carbonation. there's a bit of a slick mouth feel. the overall sweetness is countered well by a bit of a spicy/sour bite and the high carbonation.

I really think the long long cellaring changed the character quite a bit, judging by the other reviews on this one. Nonetheless, the flavors were complex and played well off each other. Good balance. Not a great session beer, because of the farm-house flavors in particular.

Bottle courtesy of ZorPrime, 750ml (two separate pours) into my Paulaner Weizen glass. 2010 vintage. Thanks a bunch Eric!

Appears a mango orange with 3+ fingers of lofty head, colour a few shades darker than the label itself. Hazy (beer is 'on lees'), and wonderful varying shades of mango, orange, and tangerine play in the light. Walls of lace and heavy retention. Beautiful. Aroma is nice bouquet of the wheat, banana, orange, spice and potentially a touch of lemon zest. Taste leads with a lightly toasted wheat, gradually blending into a nice melange of the fruit found in the nose, with orange, mango and pineapple playing the big roles here. Mouthfeel is highly carbed, and a touch dry in the finish. Lingering aftertaste. Drinkability is nice, even on a cool day here. Great for a warm summer day, and the alcohol is undetectable but sneaks up on you.

2010 vintage
A - murky golden orange with a thumb of white head that retained at about half a finger
S - strong fruity notes of banana and orange, cloves and somewhat peppery, cereal grains
T - very interesting with a perfumy yeast note that did not present itself on the nose, orange juice, light bananas, cloves and coriander, and toasty grain
M - decent carbonation kick, thin and spicy with a tangy dry finish
D - a very unique take on a hefe with strong perfumy flavour, pleasant and refreshing with the 8% abv going undetected, would be fantastic on a hot summer day

Exceptional craftsmanship in this wheat beer that gave it a full mouthfeel, creaminess in the mouth, and evident in the two and a half inch white creamy head that topped a sunny wheat body. Orange citrus. Pleasant aromas. the amarillo hops delivered a well integrated zest.

This was 2% alcohol less than 2009 edition, so it probably should have its own listing. Pours a hazy bright golden orange colour with very thick white head. Great head retention as it settles down to a foamy finger of head, leaving nice lacing around the glass. Smells of banana, candied sugar, orange some hops and wheat malt. Nice bitterness, lots of sweetness though. Almost a syrupy type mouthfeel. Certainly not an everyday beer, but quite a nice strong wheat ale.
