Dannebrog 800 is a collaboration between Grauballe Bryghus and Danmarks-Samfundet.

The round and full-bodied special beer is one of many elements that, throughout 2019, will help to mark the 800th anniversary of the myth of the Danes' ultimate national symbol, Dannebrog, which, according to myth, helped create the spark in Valdemar Sejr's warriors that led them to win the Battle of Lyndanisse in Estonia on June 15, 1219.

Copenhagen 4/4 2020. 50 cl bottle from Voldby Købmandsgaard Web-shop. A beer made for the celebration of the more than unlikely first occurrence of the Danish flag in Estonia. Drawing of flag waving but diversified crowd on the label.

Pours unclear - almost hazy - amber with a medium-sized white head. Settles as thin layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. No lacing.

Aroma is medium intense, sweetish and with a light bitter touch. Malty caramel and toffee, brown sugar, bread and light odor of sourish grains.

Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, almost flat texture. A little sticky.

Flavor is medium intense with a rather strong sweetness followed by a moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet and lingers for a bit. Sweet finish with sweet toffee.

To quote Douglas Adams: "Mostly Harmless". And not especially interesting.
