The very first, completely new beers have just been launched at Herslev Bryghus. The dark 6 percent beer, which is filled with herbs that grew freely in Denmark during the Viking Age, will be marketed in Sagnlandet at Lejre.

Copenhagen 28/8 2018. 50 cl bottle from SuperBrugsen. Dark label with stylized drawing of a Viking House. Seems to be collaboration between Herslev and Sagnlandet Lejre.
Pours hazy, reddish amber with dense off-white head. Settles as flimsy thin layer struggling in vain to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is sweetish with sourish notes and a spicy twist. Sweet caramel, lightly smoky notes and light notes of Gale and licorice.
Light carbonation. Soft, medium thick, oily texture.
Flavor is medium sweet followed by slightly weaker bitterness. Aftertaste is bitterish and slightly herbal. Lingers shortly.
Quite civilized for a Viking Beer who manages to hide the ABV decently. A bit on the sweet side - but not too Herbal.
