Mjølner Barley Wine 2009 Brettanomyces is moderately hoppy, has a long aftertaste, and a sweetness that is kept in check by the brettanomyces yeast. The beer has a long aftertaste. A complicated beer that is for connoisseurs, and which definitely wins upon closer acquaintance.
Herslev Bryghus Barley Wines are all individually numbered. The taste will continue to develop as the beer ages.

Copenhagen 28/5 2018. 50 cl bottle from Meny. Blue version of Herslev's usual design.
Pours opaque amber with a very small off-white head. Settles as a thin yet persistent layer of foam covering the surface of the beer.
Aroma is warm, heavy sweet and boozy. Sherry, fermented plum with sour, sharp notes. A little funk from the Brett.
Soft carbonation verging on being flat. Thick, soft, sticky and sugary texture.
Flavor is heavy sweet. Followed by light but noticeable bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet. Finish is semi-dry.
With an ABV of 11% it is no wonder that it is named after the Hammer of Thor. But I had no idea it would be such a sweet experience to be hit upon the head by Mjølner.
