A- This pours a semi hazed (chill hazed) copper color that has deep gold tinges and a pretty thin white colored head. This has little to no retention.....there is pretty much a wisp of a layer covering the liquid at the moment. There is a plentiful amount of crisp carbonation that rises swiftly to the top and lacing is pretty much non existent. Overall I don't feel that this is a great looking beer....average-ish.

S- Very malt forward brew (caramel/toffee/molassess), with noticeable hints of citrus rind (think grapefruit zest or pomello), muted apricot/apple smells and slightly of wild yeasts, but again, these are subdued. Bread/biscuit smoothness towards the finish along with perhaps a cleansing hop bitterness. Nice overall!

T- The flavors go deeper than the aromas let on, in particular, with the fruitiness. Citrus and orchard fruits give way to more of a rounded fig/date/raisined flavor. Malt sweetness is present and it is of brown sugar, molasses and toffee notes on the palate. There is an overall Belgian yeast character to this.....buttery and lingering on the palate in a modest fashion.....hop presence becomes slightly tart on the finish, due to Saaz usage that cleanses, but not fully. Well rounded taste!

M/O- I like the medium body and smooth, plentiful carbonation of this beer.....this really allows full penetration of flavors and character to be appreciated on the palate. Alcohol is well hidden and I find this to be a truly delightful Ale that is highly drinkable....I'd rather enjoy having a few of these in a sitting. I think the Scots have done a fine job and I recommend! Look forward to more from this brewery!

A Scottish take on a Belgian Ale, and it's a successful result.
You can definitely detect the yeast notes in the nose and on the tongue,
The main difference is the lower ABV, otherwise this is a good Belgian Abbey-style ale.
Malty, biscuity (cookie). Yum.

330ml bottle, day 5 of the 2016 Craft BeerAdvent calendar - I thought that the theme here was 'new world beers' - how is a BPA or abbey ale that?

This beer pours a clear, medium golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, bubbly, and somewhat creamy eggshell white head, which leaves some decent Runic character lace around the glass as it lazily recedes.

It smells of grainy and doughy pale malt, a bit of caramel candy, besotted raisins, a touch of earthy yeast, and some very tame leafy and floral green hop bitters. The taste is semi-sweet bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser wheat-like graininess, mixed fruit bowl esters (apple and pear, mostly), laid-back yeast, and more understated earthy, leafy, and floral noble hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly soft in its caressing frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, just a hint of yeastiness taking a minor tithe here. It finishes off-dry, the malt and its fruity attendants lingering in the manner born.

Overall, this appears to be a well-made version of the style, with all the metrics hit upon. While this doesn't exactly blow up my typically loose skirt, I can still vouch for its quality for those who do like this kind of thing.

Inspiration series #2
Day 5 of Craft Beer Advent Calendar

Clear bronze, white head, very little retention, but shows some lace.

Sweet bready aroma with hints of fruit.

Some figs and golden raisins in the flavour, with a little cider and grassy spice. Earthy, modest bitterness lets some sweetness through.

Well attenuated, moderate body has an off-dry finish.
