Our tribute to the English style brown with local influence is sure to please the connoisseur in all of us. Our Bison Brown Ale has a medium body using a variety of malts producing a distinctive hint of chocolate and nut. We use the finest English "noble" hops, making this a well balanced beer.

Chestnut colored beer with a tan head. It smelled nutty with a light floral touch. Sweet taste with caramel and bread dominating. It is easy drinking and pairs well with a burger.

Pours a hazy, brown color. 1/5 inch head of an off-white color. Slight retention and decent lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight roasted malt, slight dry hop, and pale malt. Fits the style of an English Brown Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of roasted malt, sweet malt, hint of pale malt, and slight hop. Overall, good aroma, feel, and blend.

Yep its local, but it is not that great. Like all Little apple beers the head dies quickly, if there you are lucky enough to get any head at all.

Smell is mix of sugar and coffee, the coffee/choc is a welcome addition to the normal sickly sweetness associated with little apple brews.

Taste, sweet. The roast character is totally drowned in sugary sweetness. This is not a session beer. A glass of this will keep you going all day, but no so good if you want to have a few beers after work.

Yet another fail by little apple brewery. I am not sure what the other reviewers are drinking, perhaps the fact that this is a great place to go (ignoring the beer) affects peoples judgment? or I also could be wrong!

Local brew!

Appearance: Dark brown with tinges of ruby and orange. Creamy tan head that recedes slowly. Lacing is sticky.

Smell: Coffee, chocolate, and an earthy aroma.

Taste: Coffee flavor with some burnt tastes. Slight hop flavor on the end. Aftertaste of roasted grain and sweet malt. Very tasty brew.

Mouthfeel: Very creamy and smooth. Medium body.

Drinkability: Session-able. It has good flavor complexity. 5.3%

Overall: Quite nice. A good beer from Manhattan, KS, and my first growler experience.

A - Poured a semi-opaque, brown color with a small, tan head of thick foam. It left soapy, residue on the glass.

S - It smelled of grasses, caramel malt and chocolate. Also, a subtle nutty aroma.

T - A nutty flavor came through with a biscuit caramel malt taste. It has a slight hop bitterness.

M - It was crisp and smooth with a somewhat dry finish. A medium-bodied ale.

D - This is a pretty good brown ale. I've had it numerous times and I've never been disappointed.

An excellent Brown ale. Nice balance of malt and toastiness. Very smooth and rich. Some malt aroma. The flavor has some coffee and caramel. Great matched with the Brewery's Steak & Black bean chili.

Would make a great session beer as it is flavorful and satisfying but not overly strong.

I'll admit that brown ales are not my favorite style, so I wasn't really expecting to like this much. I figured I'd review it to style, and go from there. I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least.

The brew is a deep chocolate brown color. Mine came out with almost no head, but it certainly wasn't flat. May ave been a glass that wasn't perfectly clean. The aroma was chocolately, with a bit of caramel as well. No hoppiness in the aroma.

The flavor is suprisingly balanced, with some bitterness, and a great deal of chocolate and caramel flavors. It tastes a good deal like a Sugar Daddy sucker, but with hop flavor, as the hop flvors are more prominant than the aroma may have suggested. It's really quite good. Odd that my least favorite style on a flight of beers I tried, that beer was easily my favorite.

Very drinkable, and quite nice. Highly recommended.

Part of a sampler at the brewery - it has the same malt flavors present in the red and the stout, some more malt than in the red, but very similar flavor, dark reddish-brown color, smoky roasted oak and coffee/caramel aroma and taste and sweet aftertaste.

Poured a cloudy, dark-brown color with a thin, light-brown head. Not much lacing. Pleasantly sweet aroma of malt and chocolate. Nice, full mouthfeel. Full flavor of chocolate and malt. Not much of a hop flavor. Aftertaste of coffee. Very nice brown ale.

Dark chestnut borwn with a slight haze. Beige head fizzles into a meager ring. Understated notes of dry baker's chocolate and dark caramel upfront in aroma, with a faintly citrusy hop nose. Tame, pedestrian, but clean aromawise. Mildly raisiny caramel sweetness initially inflavor yields to lightly burnt chocolate and roasted grain bitterness, which then widens into a pleasantly assertive hop bitterness. Clean, simple malt and hop profile. Lightly bodied, with an agreeably dextrinous mouthfeel. Finishes lightly sweet, with hints of bready malt and cocoa briefly lingering. Bison is a quaffable, relatively flavorful, no frills American Brown.
