Nut Brown Ale

Best nut brown I have had. Real nut taste. Nice brown color. Carmel sweetness. Thoroughly refreshing. Subtle head.You can feel the carbonation on-tap but not overly done. A superstar in their lineup of stars and should be bottled.
Had again 5.5 years later and was rather average. Dark brown with a little white head, and lots of lace. Sweet finish, aftertaste, and aroma.

 

Had this on tap at 6 & Save in New Kensington -- very excited to see Bullfrog in these parts!

Poured into a tulip the darkest brown I've ever seen (Nut Black?), with a very thin head & spidery lacing.

Smells of mild caramel, chocolate malt. Hops gain a little with time to balance.

Taste is of cola at first, then mild chocolate, some musty hop flavors, slightly smoky & roasty, a little on the mineral/chalky side. As it warms the hops gain some strength again, a little & tart, & some sublte meaty flavors pop up.

Mouthfeel is medium, not too thick or thin.

All around pretty decent, especially for a nut brown. For me, most brown ales tend to be underwhelming & unremarkable, this one had a fair amount of character to it while still not going whole-hog in any one area. A good sessioner.

A-Deep, dark brown with a thin light tan head that reduced to a thin film and left spotty lace.

S-Nice aroma of roasted and caramelized malts with a touch of nutty dryness and a touch of brown sugar coating.

T-Like a liquid Christmas cookie with hints of brown sugar, hazelnut dark cocoa powder all backed but a healthy backbone of sweet caramel malt.

M-Medium-light bodied with nice lingering flavours and a drying finish.

D-Solid and tasty, hard not to like. Goes down easy, doesn't kill you with ABV and keeps things interesting on the palate. A flavourful, session brew that any Englishmen would be happy with!

A - pours a dark chestnut brown with no foam to speak of

S - slight nutty earthy aromas

T - caramel malts and a bit of floral hops still with not alot of carbonation

M/D - a good tasting brown, but nothing over the top exceptional. Easy drinking, but a bit more carbonation would be nice.

Served as a sample at the 2004 Penn Festival. The color was brown, with a good head. The smell was a strong coffee roastiness. The taste was a very strong coffee roastiness with a nutty bitterness in the taste. Mouthfeel is average. As for drinkability, this is definitely one that I could have several of.

Brown ales usually end up being one of those "shrug" styles of beer, but I admit that this one excited me, which definitely says a lot about how good this was. A very strong coffee taste made this one of the true surprises of the festival. The best brown ale I've ever had, and one I'd gladly have again.
