Poured in a shaker pint, the Biere De Mars is amber colored with a thin off white head.
The aroma is on the lighter side, predominately malt, but enough of the earthy spiciness that defines this style that you should be able to recognize it as such in a blind test.
The taste was pretty good, initially a rush of sweet malt, almost scotch ale like (as in color), which is quickly tempered by the spiciness of the yeast and bit of mineral of the finish, which is otherwise quite clean. The depth is a bit lacking, but overall pretty enjoyable. I haven't had enough of the original versions of this style to really say how well it hit the mark, but it was pretty good, and my understanding is that the style is loosely defined and fairly varied, so it was surely within range.
The moutfeel was fairly light in spite of it's malt dominance, maybe a tad cloying.
This was pretty drinkable, I had no problem enjoying 2 pints over a lazy afternoon hanging out with friends, although I was sipping them pretty slowly.

On tap at the brewpub. I like this style's sass and spiciness, of which this was an over-reach of skill and not a great rep of the style. Reddish colour, overcarbonated and off taste. More maltiness than anything else. There was a drop of yeast and some hops. The whole thing together not working but drinkable.
