This beer, poured into my glass from the growler, had a clear brown color with auburn highlights. The head was white and minimal. The aroma struck me as odd at first. I thought it was an odd yeast aroma, but after a second sniff determined it was piney herbs that were present. The malt and hop aroma were mild and pleasant, but did not stick out. The flavor was dominated by the herbs and spices. The presence of a toasted grain flavor nagged at the tongue as well. The beer finished on the dry side leaving a bread-like feeling on the tongue. The hop flavor was slight, but present without being dominant. I thought it was a decent beer for a seasonal. I like a little bit more alcohol flavor in a "winter warmer" like this one. So while I thought this was a decent beer, because it will probably leave me cold in the winter months, I wouldn't call it a standout.
