Part of the Kegs Gone Wild series, this is a Flanders Oud Bruin, a brown ale funked and soured up. Served on Friday August 1 on the way to Cooperstown.
A: The ale is a hazy mess, so thick with sediment that it looks like a glass of chocolate milk. The brown depth has a lighter beige tone, not quite like a thick glass of the aforementioned chocolate milk.
S: The aroma is sour, tart and gamey with hints of cherry sprinkled throughout. The tartness is acidic with hints of vinegary sourness.
T: The ale starts off with tart puckery elements of lemon citrus, tickling the tastebuds with an intense flash. As the tartness fades, sour vinegar flavors emerge to further remind me that this is a wild Belgian ale. Hints of sour cherry emerge at this point to soften the bite of the sourness. The flavors are funky, bold and intense, a great take on a Belgian brown ale.
M: The mouthfeel keeps you guessing. Tart, sour, vinegar, citrus, cherries, the flavors go on and on. This was an excellent choice.
D: The alcohol doesn't strike me as high, aiding in the drinkability. It's a shame that I don't live closer to Williamsport or I'd be in weekly for these kegs.
