A-Deep, dark brown with ruby highlights. A thin tan head fades to a thin cap and leaves spotty lace
S-Blackstrap molasses and roasted coffee notes meld nicely with light bitter, dark chocolate. Earthy hops in the background adds to the aroma profile.
T-Roasted malt and bitterness comprised of dark chocolate, coffee, molasses and earthy, tobacco-like, hops. Builds into a dry finsih with warming.
M - Medium-heavy bodied and fairly rich with long lingering roasted bitterness.
D-A nicely done brew with plenty of flavour and body. An easy drinking, fairly low ABV, brew made for multiple pints of enjoyment.

A - A deep, dark, black body with a thin, light brown head that showed little retention...not much lacing left
S - Chocolate and coffee are evident first...deep roasted malts and a touch of hops can also be picked up
T - The chocolate stands out up front and through the middle of the beer...there's also the roasted malts coming through...I'm picking up a sweetness but it's not of the caramel variety...seeing a previous review I have found out it's molasses...interesting touch...the coffee and a hint of earthy hops add the perfect amount of bitterness at the end
M - Medium bodied...the body is just right on the palate, creamy, and leaves a nice bitterness
D - I liked this stout from Bullfrog...a very nice flavor profile with the chocolate, molasses, coffee, and hops...I hope Al keeps getting in Bullfrog beers as I have not made a trip to the brewery yet

A growler filled at Al's last weekend. Consumed at the end of a torturous 3 weeks.
A: The stout is a dark, chocolatey black color, pitch black. A tan head, nearly a finger on pour, quickly receded and left no lace behind.
S: A bit of chocolate, semi-sweet with a touch of bitterness, meets coffee and lots of roasted malts. The aroma, rich as it is, lacks the alcoholic oomph that such a big aroma generally has. I don't miss that strength; this is much more inviting.
T: The American stout body works, keeping everything in check. Roasted flavors are mighty, dark with a bitterness. Chocolate and coffee add to the mix. A citrusy dose of hops is well-timed in the middle of the sip, breaking up roasted flavors for a bit. The stout flavors return for the finale, a strong roasted sweet finish. A good stout, not too heavy on a 90+ degree day.
M: The mouthfeel, sweet but bitter, has a smooth feel, aided in part by the partial nitro mix settling out the CO2. The mid-sip hops work too.
D: A rich stout below 5%, what more do you need? I was glad to share my growler with ksak, but I wish I had another glass left.

The 4th and final review accumulated at The Bullfrog. Review is from notes taken on 7/16/2010 and poured from the tap to a pint glass.
Appearance: Comes the deepest and darkest brown, near black, like coffee; starts with really no head, but just a wispy light tan skim; body is entirely opaque; only a strand and a couple of spots of lacing are left behind.
Smell: Smell comes across fairly weak; some bittersweet chocolate and a bit of a smokey/peaty scent to it; to me, this is pretty average for an American Stout.
Taste: Not too bad, and a step up from the smell and a little better than some other American Stouts out there -- definite smokey/peaty (almost meaty) flavor with some bittersweet chocolate and really, at the end, some nice spent roasty coffee flavors; a slight grasspy hop presence lingers at the end.
Mouthfeel: As it seems to be the norm with this style, the mouthfeel is fairly thin and a litle watery; this one odes provide a fairly thick and cottony-dry coating; carbonation is soft and essentially not really present.
Drinkability: All in all, not too bad -- a really nice smooth drink with some robust flavors; I do wish the smells were a bit stronger and of course, the mouth could be considerably thicker, but a great effort by what seems to me to be a really great brewery.

On tap at Bullfrog Brewery on 9/26/09. Described on the beer menu as as cross between "a Caribbean and an American stout, this bittersweet brew has hints of molasses and espresso with a hoppy finish."
A - Deep garnet/dark brown, almost onyx black with just a hint of royal purple and a thin creamy tan cap that quickly receded into a patchy film and left decent lacing.
S - Initial aroma blends molasses and coffee notes with a dark, rich malt character suggesting semi-sweet chocolate. Earthy and herbal hops round out the equasion, giving a hint of bitterness to the nose.
T - Earthy and roasty with subtle lactic notes buried beneath coffee beans, molasses and leafy, herbal hops. Dark and malty with a really earthy bitter aspect and more coffee character in the finish.
M - Medium to full-bodied with a thick, rich texture and medium carbonation. Assertive bitter finish with a hint of dryness and astringency on the palate.
D - This drank like a bitter milk stout with a blast of coffee and lots of earthy hops and molasses. Very good, complex American Stout overall.
