My aunt loves beers like these so when we took the trip out to the brewery she ordered a glass. She let me sample some of hers, just so I could get a taste. The beer was dark black in color with a thin tan colored head on top. The nose was full of chocolate and coffee. The taste was mostly the same thing too. The mouthfeel of the beer was smooth and not too carbonated. Overall it had a ton of flavor to it, sure to please most fans of this style.

A - Pours a dark brown with tan head. Decent retention but minimal lacing

S - Cold brewed coffee, hazelnut, chocolate.

T - Very strong, coffee-forward beer. Almost tastes like straight up carbonated coffee. I do get some chocolate milk-lactose sweetness as well, nice touch. Other than coffee and chocolate, not much else to taste.

M - Plenty of carbonation, medium

O - A very good breakfast beer, or you could just have hot coffee. A decent brew just not overly diverse.

An assertive pour yields a monstrous, cookie dough-colored head that mottles as it recedes and coats the glass with sticky fabric. Double Coffee is the name; appropriately so, the color is that of a fresh-brewed pot of dark black Joe. Roasted coffee beans and an earthy nuttiness greet the nose alongside traces of pine resin and Baker's chocolate. Aroma isn't as strong as I would have expected, but it's solid nevertheless.

Heavily roasted dark malts and smoky coffee grounds coat the tongue with a lingering note of vegetal, slightly astringent earthiness. Mouthfeel is spritzy in its carbonation and aggressive across the top of the palate, which seems to collide with the inherently thick body and expected smoothness of a big Stout. Still, this is a tasty brew that lives up to the name. It could use a bit more coffee in the flavor while toning down the acridity and carbonation, but I definitely enjoyed it.

Bullfrog Double Coffee Stout has a perfect appearance. The beer is jet black, completely opaque. An inch of thick, beige head lingers for several minutes and leaves ample lacing all over the glass.

The aroma brings a massive shot of fresh coffee. Other scents become an afterthought next to this dominating espresso fragrance. Very enticing.

The flavor is no surprise, as the beer is very coffee forward. Absolutely delicious. The beer is very well balanced and is dangerously easy to drink. Roast emerges more so in the flavor than in the nose. Alcohol content is masked extremely well.

The feel is creamy and this stout goes down effortlessly. I really enjoyed this brew and would relish the opportunity to have it again.

Bottle thanks to Thorpe... Dark brown body with tons of carbonation. A great medium mocha head, good retention and lacing... The aroma is great, coffee that is so fresh you get hints of grass, coffee beans, roast and hint of pepper... The freshness on the nose doesn't come through as much, seems like its a bit older. The pepper notes are gone, mostly left with the coffee. The coffee is a touch sweet, could use a bit more roast.

A - Black beer with a nice looking mocha head that bubbled up consistently on the pour. Really nice looking.

S - Some strong coffee notes and roasted malts, but I get a lot of gross green pepper in there which cancelled out all the good stuff.

T - Good coffee, but get way too much of the peppers again which kind of kills it for me. It's not bad, but I really don't like hte pepper or green notes.

M - Smooth, full bodied, nice carbonation.

O - Taste just doesn't really do it for me, neither does the smell. Average.

A: The coffee stout is black, contrasting against the much lighter tan-hued head.

S: The nose is punctuated with lots, and I mean lots, of sweet coffee and lactose aromas. Chocolate malts linger but the coffee is the driving force.

T: The coffee presence remains strong, roasted java that benefits from the chocolate malts and a sweet lactic au lait presence. Bitterness is an afterthought, no over-roasted beans in this beer. A very rich stout, especially the coffee-and-cream interaction. The regular stout aspect (as opposed to imperial) is a big plus.

M: Creamy smooth, the sweetness of the stout really caught me off guard. Both ksak and I enjoyed a glass.

D: This beer is getting the same rating as my most recent stout. Funny how two different brewers can bring ou thte best in the coffee, without relying on an overblown imperial stout.

Bullfrog Double Coffee Stout has a dark brown, opaque body that appears black and translucent at its core. The head is small and brown, but the bubbles are tightly packed and it manages to remain on top of the beer in a thin collar that has solid retention and leaves a few spots of lacing.

The aroma is all coffee, with a just a little bit of malt behind it. Pretty nice.

The flavor is pretty much the aroma, transferred to my mouth. Tons of fresh coffee flavor, with just a bit of chocolate malt behind it. Thankfully, this stout manages to avoid any flavors such as acrid or bitter coffee, or just plain crappy coffee, all of which are key to avoid for a coffee beer, especially one that is as straight forward as this one.

Mouthfeel is big silky, very well-done.

Great drinkability. Although I split this growler with a buddy, I could easily have polished it off by myself.

Thanks to Thorpe429 for hooking us up with a couple of bottles of this. Unlabeled 12oz bottle into my Darkness snifter.

A - Pours black, a fingers-worth of mocha-colored head. After the initial pour, the head reduces to a thick ring around the glass with large bubbles all around and a thin film on top. Some slight spotty lacing along the sides of the glass as well.

S - Lots of coffee and roast, some dark chocolate, some milk chocolate sweetness in there as well, oak,

T - Coffee, dark chocolate, roast. All very good up front but the finish has some astringent oak or something that makes me cringe a bit. Not a bitterness or dark chocolate finish, just astringent and off-putting. After letting the beer warm a bit, it's not nearly as bad and I'm able to enjoy this one a little more.

M - Medium, good carbonation, rich and creamy, dry finish.

D - A solid coffee stout, but not up top amongst the others I've had. I'm glad I was able to try it and would definitely have it again, if offered the chance. Good, not great.

a - Pours a jet black color with an inch of tan head and light carbonation evident.

s - Smells of pure coffee grinds, cream, roasted malts, and toasted malts.

t - Taste likes coffee grinds, roasted malts, cream, toasted malts.

m - Medium body and low carbonation.

d - A really nice coffee stout. We opened this as well as a Black Damnation Mocha Bomb to try them both next to each other and they were very very similiar. Would have again.

Beer is black with a tan head, opaque and some lacing is left behind (he was having some issues with pressure but this beer looks like a good stout).

Beer's aroma is strong coffee but not really roasty if that makes sense. There is a chocolate-ness to it that detracts from the just the overwhelming roast character to the whole thing. It's like one of those coffee drinks my wife buys but I refuse to drink. Smells sweet and roasty, nice.

Beer is medium bodied and really drinkable, this is a very good beer. Good call on the keg of it. Beer is sweet up front and gives way to a nice chocolate mild vanilla and some coffee at the end. The coffee is a star in this beer but don't be mistaken, the bitterness is not overwhelming. It is quite well "balanced", the finish is great, wet, not dry, I think this fact helps a lot. I'd definitely have this again, one of the best American stouts I've ever had.

A- Interestingly colored and very enticing. It is a rich, deep and dark brown color with a ruby/mahogany hue glowing from within. A very thin off white head with brown streaking courtesy of the slow and steady stream of bubbles revealing the light level of carb. A really inviting brew that looks great for the cold autumn/winter nights ahead.

S- Is this really a beer or sneaky trick from Terry? An amazing coffee smell that smells like a freshly brewed pot. Tons of bitter coffee smell with a faint dark chocolate smell as it warms that gives it a creamy and luscious smell with a subtle roastiness of a cooling pot of coffee. Really wonderful smelling, would be a welcomed drink with breakfast.

T- I can't believe this is actually beer, it tastes like a gourmet cup of fresh brewed coffee. Right away a bitter coffee taste, finished off with a creamy, milky sugar sweetness accompanied by the ridiculous roasty malts. I prefer my coffee black, but this one is well balanced with the bitterness, sweetness and creaminess. Really enjoyable and a must for coffee or coffee beer lovers. Hope it gets bottled sometime soon.

M- This is reminiscent of an iced coffee. It's thick, chewy and coating like milky. Definitely creamy and full bodies, spectacular feel and stays there so you can taste all of it.

D- Simply divine if your a coffee beer lover. I would prefer this to coffee in the morning any day. A great example of a full bodied coffee stout from Terry. Incredible balance that could be drank anytime of the day.

Another example of Terry's brewing prowess that I am grateful that I got to try fresh the day it was growlered. Thanks again Deuane, tell Terry he needs to bottle so I can age one a little while to see if the coffee subdues or takes over.

A- Very dark in color.

S- can you say smells like coffee. Such a Hugh robust aroma from the coffee and alittle hint of bittersweet chocolate.

T- Heaven in my glass. The 10 pounds of coffee are there and not going anywhere. Such a flavor from the coffee and chocolate malts and bitterness from either the coffee or the malt. Oh so goodness.

M- Surprisingly very smooth somewhat bitter like drinking coffee with out the cream and sugar.

D- Terry is a genesis. This have to be the best coffee stout I ever tasted so far anyway. And this will be a hard act to follow. A must try for everyone.

Picked up a growler of this after sampling this, edgar ipa, fresh hop ale, and diablo, all were excellent but this is a great growler deal.

Poured into small pint glass, deep, dark black with brown head. This sample, the head dissipated quickly, but it was great in the pub. Just delicious looking.

Smell is deeply roasted, chocaletely, coffee malt, nearly a fresh cup of coffe in my nose with a hint of sweetness, great.

Taste is even more pronounced then the smell, sweet, but not oversweet roasted chocaletey malt, with coffee bitterness on the finish. Kinda like melting a dark chocalete bar in some espresso, great.

Mouthfeel is well done, a little strong on the top of the tongue but distributes well through the mouth.

Extremely drinkable, this is 8% ABV?! Wonderful beer.
