This beer was pretty good. Got a glass on tap at the brewpub. It poured out as a hazy looking golden color. The head was thick and white. The smell of the had a nice mix of wheat grains and some citrusy hops. The taste was very good too. Lots of hoppy bitterness mixed up with some soft wheat flavors. The mouthfeel was nice too, it was light and refreshing with a crisp dryness at the end. Overall it was an enjoyable brew for sure.

On tap at the brewpub; a surprise tapping for Terry's going away party, along with Fran-Tastique.

A: The APWA is a light straw colored brew, sunshine yellow and orange provide hope on this snowy e'en. A thin head, barely worth mentioning, came with the pour.

S: The citra is pleasant, awash in orange pulp and dry rind. The aroma isn't as powerful as I remember it being (of course, it's never gonna smell like it smellt last night), but that's just the din of memory. Very light and appealing.

T: The citra doesn't seem to be at the top of its game. Don't get me wrong, the orange is present, it just seems to be plodding. Of course, this keg could have been in the basement since August causing the hops to fall off. The wheat base is light, mildly tart but barely enough to register. Back to the hops, when they sizzle the orange and Citra can't be topped.

M: The mouthfeel, regardless of my criticisms, is heavenly, smooth and hoppy, hitting all the right notes. This beer helped me fall in love with Citra.

D: At 5%, Citra-delic is a sessionable wheat ale. The hoppiness stands out, a delicious dose of orange.

On tap at the brewery, late summer 2010 - reviewed from notes.

Served in a standard pint glass. The bartenders pour arrived with a single finger of pearly white foam sitting on top of a goldenrod body. The bubbles slowly died off into tiny swirls but coated the glass walls.

The nose is equal to sticking your face into a grapefruit, removing it and shoving it into a flower bed. Yeah.

Not sure where the wheat part of this comes in...I was expecting something along the lines of Gumballhead, but no...nothing about this screams "wheat". The hops smash your palate right up fronts and dance down your throat at the finish...citrus all the way.

Light and fluffy on the tongue...well carbonated.

This is very easy to drink...a wonderful summertime beer!

Review from notes taken 8/13/10.

Growler share care of pmsawyer, thanks Pete. Poured into a pint, this brew appears a hazed orange/yellow color. A finger's worth of white head appears and lacing covers the entire glass with a layer of foam.

The aroma is a very bold display of sweet citrusy fruits mingled with a fresh scent of flowers. The citra hop's presence here is amazing in an in your face dominating hop love sort of way.

The taste includes all sorts of citrusy flavored hops that impart flavors of orange, grapefruit, pineapple and a seemingly sweetness that takes a turn to sharp herbal bitterness.

This is a medium to light bodied brew with a moderate level of carbonation. Long lingering aftertaste of bitter herbal hops mixed with a sweet fruity hop character. Extremely drinkable.

This is a very perplexing example to review. A wheat beer? Really? I was easily fooled, this is more aromatic and hop flavored than 3/4 of the ipas I've recently had. It is way out of bounds with how excessively awesome this is due to it's utilization of hops and freshness. It is unlike any other wheat beer I have had. In a way it doesn't seem fair to place judgement based solely on it's freshness and bold usage of hops but man was this beer good.

Big thanks to Mike Thorpe!

Pours a hazy golden color. About a quarter inch of long lasting white foam, which settles down to a thin white crust that never dies. Gobs of lacing on the glass.

Smells like fresh sweet grapefruit, a bit of grain-y earthiness, and a kiss from a young maid in a sun dappled meadow.

Taste is explosively grape-fruit-y, with both sweet and slightly bitter varieties. Some fresh tangerines and orange in there. Man, this is one hoppy wheat ale. Not sure what the wheat contributed, except maybe this light fluffy mouthfeel.

Best beer I've had from bullfrog.

a: poured into my allagash wheat glass, the beer is a clear, light amber in color and sports a nice off-white head with average retention

s: absolutely love the citra hop aroma - fresh grapefruit dominates with supporting orange, mostly citrus of course with some accompanying mango and passionfruit, fresh young pine, fairly mild yeast influence, the wheat base for the most part stays out of the way - while providing a light spice and some underlying sweetness

m: body on the light end but not thin, clean and crisp, carbonation lively and on the higher end, refreshing

t: lots of refreshing, juicy citrus with edges of young pine and tropical fruits, grapefruit, orange, passionfruit, wheat provides a great base structure here, contributing just a touch of sweetness that quickly dries into the bitter finish, clean yeast, almost oily with hop resin

d: a great wheat beer - almost speaks more to the ipa style, ridiculously drinkable

A: pours a slightly hazy light gold with a nice bone white heard and a good amount of lacing.

S: The first whiff let's me know that this is one serious American Wheat. Loads of hops and...that's about it. Love it. Some slight grain but mostly citrus and earthy hops.

T: Wow. By far, far, far the beat American Wheat I've ever had. Takes the throne from Gumballhead without a doubt. Loads of citrus and earthy hops with a hefty dose of bitterness. This is absolutely all about the hops. Not sure if this is all Citra, as I do taste a bit of Amarillo-type flavors.

M: bitter and dry. No alcohol taste as expected. Love the low ABV here. Light body and moderate carb--everything says amazing hoppy summer session beer.

D: off the charts. Super glad we picked up a keg of this, but disappointed in myself for only ordering a sixtel. If you're in the Mid-Atlantic, seek this out NOW!

Thanks to tenderbranson69 for sharing the growler - poured chilled into a Duvel tulip.

A - A tarnished golden apricot color w/ mild haze and thick frothy bone white cap. The bead is average sized and lace clings very well

S - The first scent is sweet pine and wonderfully sweet grapefruit w/ mild tangerine and pure hoppy nasal pleasure with a gentle element of kumquat

M -The true hop essence is here - Citra tangy texture w/ a mild wheat base, sweetness is very restrained and resinous acidic notes move toward a lingering bitter finish, moderate carbonation w/ tanginess and fruity tinges throughout, the yeast is clean on the mouthfeel w/ mild astringency from the hops

T - The beer is really citric -tangy fruity and bitter with hop dominant tangerine and grapefruit flavor. The juicy and bitter collide in all the right ways w/ light malt tinge and subtle yeast only there to hoist the Citra hop amplified flavor to the forefront. A very smooth bitterness w/ vibrant tangelo/mineola tropical orange flavor

D - A great wheat if you want a wheat that is basically an IPA veiled as a wheat. You get all the hops packed into a 5% beer -a hop heads dream beer and a great use of Citra!

Thanks to FooFaa via Deuane for sharing this growler on 8/9/10.

A - Poured a hazy golden amber-toned, orange kissed liquid with a slim but creamy off-white head that reduced to a patchy residue and strands of wispy lacing.

S - Pungent, dank-ass hops with strong pine and citrus notes. While there is a hint of bready malt sweetness in the mix, the aroma is definitely dominated by notes of fresh hops.

T - Initial flavor is really orangey with sharp piney hop notes and hemp-like dankness. Some sweet malt balances the intense hop flavor and suggests wheat bread.

M - Medium bodied with a smooth, really oily texture and minimal carbonation. Finishes with a moderate hop bite on the palate.

D - Wheat beer, eh? This sucker definitely drinks like an IPA with plenty of fresh, dank hops out the wazoo!

A-Hazy, copper kissed golden yellow with a thin bright white head that holds on strong and leaves lacy cascades of foam.

S-Like a beer screwdriver! Tons of Orange goodness wafting up with bitter grapefruit rind in support. Light, underlying support, of freshly toasted biscuit malt.

T-Holy fresh cut and squeezed oranges Batman! Super-licious citrus pop with only a hinting support of biscuity malt. Minimal rind bitterness in the background.

M-Medium-light bodied, super crisp with long lingering citrus bite and fruitiness.

D-Seriously? This stuff is a citrus lovers wet dream! Another excellent concoction from mad scientist Terry!
