Poured in ellipse glass at the Bullfrog

A: thin head; light orangish brown; a bit, but only, of lacing
S: grapefruit, pear, hops in delicious quantities; very inviting
T: Belgian-style IPA, quite yummy; uses U.S. hops called Calypso, which tend to be on the lighter, piney side; pear and apple overtones come through
M: slightly dead

A really nice beer.

I am thankful for tenderbranson69 for sharing this growler with me and octopus87. Enjoyed chilled in a willybecker.

The color is a very hazed golden with an amber accent head is rocky, cream and sticks to the glass after receding in a web-like lace pattern. The bead is average sized. The smell of this IPA is very piney with some mild phenolic yeast esters from the Belgian strain with slight fruit notes from the calypso hops which come of as light apple or pear with some stone fruit tinges. The feel is very dry with some spice and bitter astringent yet resinous hop textures with some more spice mid taste with moderate carbonation and medium body.

The taste is fairly bitter with some piney woody tinges from the calypso and adds dimension to the spice elements from the Belgian strain which brings out a slight nutty flavor from the malt which is very dry tasting. A secondary fruit flavor comes forward as the beer is swallowed with some grassy astringent tannic hop flavors lasting after the swallow. The overall jist of this beer is good with more hops than yeast but the hops are aggressively bitter which upsets the balance slightly.
