Reviewed 4/15/2006 (Tap @ TwoRows Brewpub, Houston, TX):

Pours a body which is dark brown in color, with almost no head, off white in color, quickly diminishing. Has no aroma that I can detect. Has a taste of roasted malts, with a slight malty finish.

A: Pours a dark brown almost black color. No head and no lace.
S: Very bland. A bit of roasted malt but nothing else.
T: More roasted malt and a bit more complex. Some chocolate and coffee. A decent tasting oatmeal stout.
D: Very watery, but very smooth and easy to drink. It would not be hard to throw a couple of these back at the bar.

I am not very impressed with this stout. This seems to be a bit dumbed down for the college crowd that frequents the place. I wish it was richer and more robust.

This beer was perhaps the most disappointing one on tap when I visited Two Rows. Especially because the pub had 4 beers to appeal to the light beer drinking crowd, and only one darker beer to showcase more complex flavors. At a brewpub, I think it should be the other way around.

This beer tasted pretty much as if they had picked out the darkest grains available and brewed up a quick beer. In otherwords, it tasted pretty much like my early homebrewed attempts at stout. The results are usually drinkable, but very unspectacular.

This was just an overly roasty, ho hum dark beer.

Served in a pils glass on site at Two Rows.

Dark black color with no head like some stouts. Very little carbonation. Hard to discern smell. Maybe a hint of roasted something. Tastes of chocolate and very malty. Not what I had hoped. Mouthfeel very thin and leaving much to be desired. After just having gone through a phase of trying many stouts over the last few weeks, this one was disappointing. I couldn't finish the glass.

Color is pitch black. Head is light and creamy, still this beer has better head than the majority of Two Row's beers. Smell doesn't present much, mainly clean with just a hint of roasted aromas. Taste has a roasted coffee quality, nice mildly piney hops, and a finish with some sweetness that I bet comes from the oatmeal. Somewhat chocolatey too. Good beer, but nothing stands out to make it a great one.

Pours a very dark brownish ruby color with a thick and creamy tan colored head that dissipates into a thin lace. Nose is sweet roasted malts and grains. Taste is sweet and chocolaty up front followed by a bit of a sour coffee flavor. Smooth and creamy in the mouth with a nice buttery caramel aftertaste. One of the better brews that Two Rows has to offer.
