From the basement cooler.... 12oz picked up by Brenda's parents over Christmas; I asked them to stop a couple places along the way and get me some "Montana Beers". This is the last of the Toad Back Bocks they brought along.
Aggressive pour left a minimal head atop a coffee colored brew.. no lacing.
Caramel malts and little else.. light yeasty fruitiness.. and an earthy hop aroma... not alot going on here.
Flavor is actually worse.. watery sweet roasted/caramel/lite chocolate grains... flavor is more like a strong grain tea than a bock... more fruitiness.
Low carbonation... Probably the most redeeming quality is the mouthfeel is on the light side of average.. It doesn't strike me at all that a lager yeast was used in this one.
All Neptune brews need more body, especially when dealing with something like a bock.. Their hefe was suprisingly good, but I am judging that by notes, not sitting here trying to finish one of their bottles... this is the 6-7th time I've had this one, and I will only ever buy it again just to see if they ever get the mouthfeel issue together.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
