I wasn't sure what to expect, butt his brew is drinkable and respectably good. Very black, with a tightly bubbled tan head, the beer has a nutty, roasty scent. Some acridity and a little char scent, but it is very mild. Slight hop scent. The taste is smooth and mostly clean. Medium to light in body. Better than I expected.

On tap at the BevMo Holiday Beerfest held at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours a murky brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt and some char aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that tastes better than it smells in my opinion.

Not quite black in color, more of a cola look to it. A short lived khaki head. A little bit of a licorice aroma to it, not all that roasty. Maybe a hint of coffee, but not very good coffee. Kind of a grainy sweetness to it, too. The coffee flavor is there, but the roastiness is bitter and not all that pleasant. Kind of watery with a mild sweetness. Possibly the weakest of the three Evans beers.
