Clear golden with a thin, white head. Aroma is malty with some notes of honey. Taste is moderately sweet with honey and grassy notes. Light bitterness at the end.

"Medove" means "With Honey" in Ukrainian.

A: Poured into a pub glass with a thick, white, rocky head. No head retention as it dissipates to nothing. Color is light amber, golden; the color of honey.

S: Smell is of faint honey, grass, and sweet menthol.

T: Decently balanced. Not much hop bitterness or sweetness. Unfortunately the honey flavor is very faint, like the smell and is overpowered by a grassy, menthol-like taste. It's not unpleasant, it's just not what I was expecting from a honey-amber.

M: Decent carbonation, especially after the heavy head at the beginning of the pour.

O: This beer is easily sessionable. It's light, pretty decent, and better than most here in Ukraine. Although, it's not my favorite from PPB. It was a bit of a let down as I couldn't get past the menthol. I know it's not what I ate too, since I've had nothing on my palate for several hours.

"Honey Beer" 5.5% abv, BBD: 10/08/11
"First Private Brewery" in English, "Persha Privatna Browarnya" in Ukranian. Cyrillic label with a honeycomb pattern behind it, and a sketch of a Ukrainian village below.

Bright straw gold with sharp clarity. Soapy foam with a slight sheen to the surface. Three fingers of foam slowly recede, leaving a little froth around the edges, later depositing some spotty lacing. Slow rising carbonation is visible.

Faint wet grain, slight malt sweetness, minerals, a little bit of honey, sure.

Sort of flat feeling, yet with a mild and pleasant flavor of clover honey and bread. Clean with no off flavors, simple with defined flavors of honey and crackery malt. Thankfully dry and not sweet, the honey is used sparingly, without any noticeable residual sugars.

Easily quaffable and non-intellectual. Another utilitarian lager from PPB, decent but far from remarkable. Something to quench the thirst after a long bike ride.
