Figure I might as well add the bottle review as well; looking back, I think this bottle was 10 bucks, an insane amount of money for a beer in 1998 (I passed on Dave 3 years later for 15--after tasting it and knowing how amazing it was). Anyways, the review:

Finally back home, I cracked this one open with thoughts of the great draft samples we had had. From the big green bottle, this one poured a slightly murky dark brow color with a smallish light brown head. Much more subdued on the nose than the draft version, as the JD doesn't assault the nostrils. It is there, along with vanilla, brown sugar and caramel. On the palate I get more whiskey, a little oak, caramel and vanilla. Less of an assault than the tap version, more balanced and very good.

Bought this one on the bay so I had no idea if it would be any good.

Its a 12 year old vintage bottle that was still sealed. The cork popped with little sound or fanfare. It poured a amber brown with very little carbonation, no head just a few bubbles. The smell is slightly rotten but mostly wet cardboard. The taste is more oxidation but there is a slight sour week old dark fruits. The mouthfeel is a little watery but the tartness makes your mouth pucker slightly. This one is definitely past its prime but it has held up nicely for a 12 year old oak aged belgian style ale.

If you have one of these, drink it now.

Served from a 750ml bottle directly to my belly. I was excited to try this beer and it generally did not disappoint. May need to age for a year in a cellar before optimum consumption and taste is achieved.

Poured a deeper orangish / brownish color with a medium sized off white head.

Aromas of caramel, vanilla, plums and raisins.

Tastes of caramel, oak, and darker fruits.
A little too malty for my taste.

Enjoy this beer with a nice bar of dark chocolate for a perfect beer pairing.
