16.9oz bottle into a goblet. 5 years in the bottle.
Dark brown body with hints of burgundy. Off white head shrinks to a ring, no lacing. Aroma is only of whiskey. Taste is smooth but strong whiskey. Finish whiskey.
As you may have gathered, this, even at 5 years, is pretty one dimensional. Must have been a whiskey bomb when first released.

L:. Pours a dark burgundy red purple with a small white head and no lacing.
S:. Sweet caramel and toffee, some vanilla followed by a strong alcohol and bourbon note.
T:. The booze and bourbon is forefront and covers a lot of the other flavors, but I do get some vanilla caramel and toffee.
F:. Cola like body, thick body.
O:. This is still a boozy monster after 3 years, I'd give it a couple more years.

Dark, reddish amber hued body; relatively thin and spongy head, lasting. Rich caramel and spicy rye notes on the nose. Sweet taste blending elements of caramel and figs; strong rye whiskey flavor develops slowly and then dominates the finish; boozy. Heavy body with a soft, spongy character initially yet firming up and becoming more slick and oily as it warms; bold alcohol heat; sticky sweetness.
This version was aged in rye whiskey barrels per the label. It has a nice appearance, especially with the head (which is sometimes difficult have with a high ABV beer. The soft and spongy quality (primarily with the mouthfeel) seems rather unique to me, especially for such a massive malt and alcohol beer like this. I kind of wish I had a 2014 version of this beer for a side-by-side comparison (I did review the beer in 2018), as I'm inclined to think the earlier rye version would be a tad better. Regardless, this is a fine offering as is.
