This beer pours jet black with a comforting layer of toffee-colored foam. The warm aromatics of the spirit rises from the glass, carrying roasted notes of bourbon, vanilla, and cocoa. The bourbon character from the barrel-aging gives the beer a full-bodied creaminess and a warm, tingling heat.

Solid black appearance
At least a medium body with a slight thick creamy feel.
Aroma is malt, roasted malt ,boozy and alcohol. Theres wood and bourbon but not screaming loud but perfectly blended into the rest of the flavors
Flavor is almost identical to the aroma. Wood and alchohol, similar to aroma is there but so much more smooth than many others I've tried.
Overall its excellent

Great looks for a high ABV and barrel-aged beer; deep, dark mahogany brown, opaque in the glass; thin yet lasting head, dense and creamy textured. Rich caramel and toffee scents; milk chocolate; quiet roasted grain background. Full-flavored and balanced; milk chocolate; suggestion of vanilla; bold yet even-keeled whiskey undercurrent. Heavy body; smooth and silky; outstanding boozy warmth, prominent yet not overpowering.
I love a bold yet balanced barrel aged imperial stout. North Coast certainly has done this with this beer. For a high ABV beer, besides good looks, the smell, taste and mouthfeel also are on top of their game. This is truly a fine, fine beer.
ABV: 12%; pouring temperature: 50.2 ℉; bottling info: 21271223124 (I'm guessing hhmmmddyy format)

Loved this one; pours a familiar dark black and settles into the glass with a small cap of foamy dark-khaki head. The barrel-aging is nice on these, with that apparent whisky and bourbon present, but subdued, with lots of roasty character and cocoa as well. Just a nice execution all around.

L: Foamy, almost nitro head on a dark brown body.
S: Boozy, roasty, not overly sweet. Pronounced oak, bourbon, caramel, cocoa, vanilla, dark fruits, licorice.
T: Roasty caramel malts dominate the body. Some chocolate, more of that pronounced oak. Notes of vanilla, licorice, and dark fruits. Plenty of barrel character.
F: Moderate carbonation, which is to say high for something like this. It really adds to the warmth. Dry finish.
O: Lively, bold, balanced. I guess having a phenomenal base beer helps.

Pours a very dark brown almost black with a tan head. Leaves a ring of bubbles, not much lacing.
Smell is nice bourbon, vanilla, roast coffee and chocolate.
Taste is the same, nice and dry.
Feel is smooth, but maybe a bit thin. Medium carbonation, definitely old school. But smell and taste are great, lovely balance.

112oz bottle. Date code on lower edge of label appears to read '20650308'.
Black colored body with a mahogany back lit edge. Tan head with some caramel highlights. This becomes bubbly islands and a ring. Leaves behind some short strings of lacing.
Aroma of bourbon barrel, oak, roasted caramel malts, and a bit of black licorice and coconut.
Taste is bourbon soaked roasted malts, milk chocolate, oak, black cherry, vanilla, and a touch of black licorice.
More than medium mouthfeel. Silky and smooth finish. Higher ABV% is certainly present but not burning. Very good carbonation.

Bottle. For $4 or so, this is a win. Tan head. Dark caramel hued brown.
Starts out like expedition stout, then finishes with vanilla, oak, and light bourbon. Caramel, chocolate, fudge, roast, light char. Raisin, figs, molasses. Full bodied but not thick. Warming but not hot.
Well done RIS.

L - black with a tan head that sticks around, leaving a thin cap along with some lacing
S - rich dark chocolate, molasses, rich bourbon, caramel, dried dark fruit
T - Dark chocolate, charred oak with rich bourbon, molasses, caramel, and dried dark fruit notes intermixed. Some bitter dark malt to tie things together.
F - medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation - a little light for the style
O - a nice barrel aged stout, but I prefer the original

Amost black, 1 finger of khaki head that quickly fades to a ring. A whiff of cocoa and a healthy snort of whiskey. Flavors are more pronounced, some roasted malt, licorice, choco/vanilla, bourbon has a warming effect. The original and BA versions always seem thin to the style. I've never seen this locally and was purchased at Total Wine in Wisconsin. I prefer the original.

Pours a dark dark black with an aroma of dark roasted malts, a bit of alcohol, maybe some light coffee with black licorice initially beginning the most dominate thing my nosed picked up. Thick roasted malts with a bit of coffee and alcohol in the initial taste that leaves my mouth a bit dry. I like it I'm going to let this sit a bit and warm and sip it as it does to see what else it has to offer.

12oz recent bottling poured in a straight sided glass at just above fridge temp 11.8% ABV. The beer pours pitch black with medium brown colored head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of bubbles. The aroma is moderate in strength featuring bourbon, charred oak, fudge and coffee. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with charred notes up front and bourbon & dark chocolate on the back end. Strongly (and deliciously) bitter. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. The abv is present in the experience, but not distractingly so. Overall, excellent. Not a surprise from North Coast.
