Found in Moscow's most expensive expat grocery store, this brew comes in a Czech standard brown half liter bottle with a white and gold label featuring a crown in the middle and the name (in English). The back label, in Russian, describes ingredients in conformity with the purity law. Best before 6/6/06 (666? Uh oh...!), I opened it on 12/3/05.
Pours clear gold under a one finger white head with decent body but little retention, fading quickly to film and collar. A few spots of lace cling to the glass. The nose is very nice - good strong malt, sweet and bready. The mouth is light and prickly. The taste is a lovely balance of malt and spicey espresso bitter. Smooth grain opening yields to a nice spicey bitterness that lasts well into the aftertaste. This is very very good.
