Appears dark brown with a light brown colored head.

It smells slightly sweet; there are hints of brown sugar and a little caramel. There is a mild bready malty smell as well. An herbal grassy hop flavor is also present in the smell.

It tastes initially nutty and slightly sweet. Like the smell there is a nice caramel flavor. The sweetness is there but it is not overpowering it is balanced by dry malts. A hop bitterness comes through in the end. There is a nice herbal grassy hop flavor that arrives with the hop bitterness.

The carbonation is moderate high.

This is a drinkable beer it goes down very smooth. It is really well balanced, unlike a lot of brown ales that are very sweet.

Overall a descent beer that is not amazing but it very drinkable and smooth.

22 oz bottle from West Richland Beer and Wine, served in Deschutes shaker pint glass 2.14.10.

Dark copper brown clear body, some carbonation rising from bottom of glass. Aggressive pour resulted in rolling Guinness-style head two fingers faint tan head, medium dissipation with real nice lacing. Nose is malt forward, caramel with some bready notes, some grassy hop aromas. Taste mirrors the nose, malty sweetness, pretty dry finish. Full mouthfeel for the style, good effervescence. Pretty drinkable. This isn't my favorite style, but having had some of the other most reviewed ABAs I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty and drinkable this was. Worth a try if you can find it.

Bomber poured into a tumbler, Brass Ass is a chill hazed brown with a sand colored head leaving light lace.

Smell is a slightly sweet brown sugar, not to strong nor weak, a hint of herbal hops as well.

Taste is similar, perhaps a bit more flaccid then the nose, but pretty good brown ale flavor overall, with some bread dough, brown sugar and a hint of buttery diacetyl, fairly well balanced and smooth overall.

Mouthfeel slides down easily, lighter bodied.

Drinkability is pretty good, this is a nice little brown, enough complexity to keep it interesting without making it hard to drink. I could definately enjoy a session of these. Bonus points for the fact that the actually make a brown ale, well to boot, as it seems to be a lost brew in NW craft brewing these days, sadly...

A: Poured with absolutely no head, and no lacing. Flat as piss on a plate, as my father would say. Body is dark brown and slightly hazy.

S: Fairly-light aroma of roasted malt... not getting anything else here. Any less and it would smell like water.

T: Taste is better with some mild roasted malt coming through, and a lightly bitter finish. After a few sips, it begins to dawn on me that it's finishing extremely dry. Average duration.

M: Light bodied, slightly creamy, with soft carbonation.

D: Sure, you can drink it. It's fine, really. But it's not exciting, and there are a lot better browns out there.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a medium brown with a hint of red at the edges. 3/4 inch of khaki colored head dissipated quickly leaving minimal lacing.

The aroma is more roasty than typical for the style and features caramel malt undertones. The taste is very similar, more roast than expected and a definite caramel finish.

The body was, also, typical for the style, moderately full without being heavy. A nicely drinkable beer, I would have several while watching the game or during light reading. Worth trying if you see it.

Found this in a local grocery and decided to give 'er a try despite not being too familiar with the brewery. Served from a bottle at 50F into a tumbler.

A- A nice pour with moderate head and fairly mild lacing. Great looking opaque reddish brown.

S - Moderate notes here of caramel, malt and sugary sweetness.

T- Very pleasant taste. Starts off malty and sweet, developing a bit more complexity and warmth. Definitely nutty with a bit of caramel and just a touch of citrusy hops.

M - Very thick, smooth and creamy. Pefect carbonation for a brown ale. Nice balance.

D - Good. It goes down easy, tastes above average and has a smooth finish. Can sip or gulp this one.

Overall, a very decent effort from a small brewery and will have to try some of their other styles.

Pours a deep brown,with big head, and great lacing. Smell is all malt, flavor too. This is a big, but not huge beer, with little hop flavor or aroma. I taste some banana, maybe a little clove. The mouthfeel of the beer is quite thick, but not so much to use the term "chewy." Drinkability is high, I could down 3 of these and still take another 3, though I would be quite drunk afterwards. All in all, a great beer.

Appearance is a dark ruby brown with a healthy head and nice lace. Smell has an upfront malt, grain, nut and light citrus. Taste opens up to a light sweet caramel malt, nutty with light grain and just the right amount of hop to finish it off. Mouthfeel is medium light with a subtle spike of carbonation. I'm not much on brown ales, but this is one I've really enjoyed and most likely get again.

I bought a bomber of Brass Ass brown ale at a grocery store. Poured in to a pint tumbler.

Pours a nut brown color and is fairly clear. Rich off-white head on an aggressive pour, with decent lacing on the glass.

The smell is faint, a caramel aroma with a bit of a sweet dairy-like fragrance.

Taste is good, a caramel malt base with a smooth hoppy bitterness and a little peppery finish. It tastes a little "brassy."

Mouthfeel is smooth, medium bodies with some carbonated zest to it.

All in all a very drinkable, sessionable brown ale. I think browns are one of the more drinkable styles, and this one is no exception.
