12oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Clear orange-amber body under an inch of non-descript off-white head. Mediocre retention and very little lace. Kinda boring, actually.
S: Hmm. Husky pale malt, piquant wheat, dully vegetal hops, and some honey sweetness. I was hoping this would be refreshing, but the sweetness on display here makes me a bit worried.
T: Honey and grain sweetness are dominant, with a bit of hops bitterness and an enormous blast of metallic flavor closing things out. The aftertaste makes me think I’ve been chewing on a mouthful of pennies. This beer would be boring enough without the horrid taste of metal, but with it it’s nearly undrinkable.
M: Prickly medium body; very bubbly, lightly sticky. Ok.
O: I don’t drainpour beers often, but with a selection of New Glarus goodness available in the fridge there’s just no reason to subject myself to this one. While I really enjoy Oaky’s Oatmeal Stout from this brewery, I definitely can’t recommend the Honey Wheat. I guess there’s a strict limit on the number of good things that can come out of Hayward. (p.s. Go Rails!)
Cheers!

Pours a clear, copper color with a white head. Head falls to a very small one. Thin lace.
Smell is of malt, wheat and honey. Go figure.
Sweet honey hits you up front. Then it's a bit tangy and almost sour. Not sure about this.
Thin mouthfeel. Average carbonation.
Very average. Not too happy with the aftertaste.

Actually, more than I was expecting from this little guy.
Appearance is pretty bland, straw yellow and you can tell its unfiltered.
Smell is decent- some honey right up front with a bit of earthy malt.
Taste begins very weak, almost nothing but yeast and wheat. But as it warms up a bit of honey comes through and some slightly floral hops.
Mouthfeel is weak even for the style, very light.
Drinkability is something I can't fault, it goes down easy.

Originally reviewed on September 17, 2005, on tap at the Big Lake Brewfest. Lingering honey wafts. Amber orange pour. RICH honey flavors that are compex and complement the wheat flavors, with out getting out of control. Some apple notes. Makes sweets run, veru lucious and succulaent. A slow swiller, but very even. Fantastic.

This beer looks good enough- a nice copper color. Not much of a head. The smell is like you stuck your nose in a beehive - strong strong honey. Overwhelmingly sweet and sickening. The taste is thankfully not quite as much honey; it's a bit of wheat and grain with honey strung through it, and perhaps a strain of noticable ethanol at the end. Mouthfeel is thin and flat with virtually no carbonation. Drinkability is ok I guess, as long as your don't smell it too much. I suppose if you LOVE honey you might like this beer a lot, as it's pretty much grain-water with honey in it that just happens to look nice.

orangy brown, looks fine i suppose. smells like a freakin jar of honey, and this carries over into the taste...like honey mixed with water with a wheat bread finish. Not terrible, but not really all that beer-like. Extremely low carbonation adds to the feeling that im drinking watery honey. If nothing else, it lives up the the honey in its name more than any other honey wheat...but thats not really a good thing.

This Honey Wheat was served in an Imperial Pint glass. It was orange/brown with virtualy no head. Good lace patterns.
The aroma was of wheat, malts and honey.
Not surprisingly, the beer was slightly sweet with more than a bit of honey taste. Surprisingly, slight biter after the first sip or two. Think of an amped-up and actually good tasting Leine Honey Weis and then you have an idea of what this beer tastes like.
Crisp mouthfeel aided by good carbonation. This is an easy drinker!! Would be a good cross-over beer.
