served on nitro at the brewery, awesome format for a beer like this, i wish we saw more browns being served this way. i think it serves to fill in for the yeast flavor and feel pretty well in the american types where its usually absent, and i love the creamy feel with the chocolate malt, thats an awesome sensation. this one is pretty light as they go though, tame on the grain front, almost more amber than brown in the light, and the chocolate malt character is a little watered down from where i like it, especially for the cold weather. that said, there is a nice fresh caramel flavor in the middle thats delicious but not too sweet, and a fine nuttiness in the finish, giving it a little more body and weight than it initially seemed like it had. smooth in feel from the nitro, but still a little thin. toasted malt notes on the back end too, with just a touch of bitter. a brown ale i could drink plenty of, but a little boring really in terms of its overall flavor profile. another safe one from these guys. seems like they do their best work when they are pushing the boundaries a little bit. the single hop pale ale series for example has been sensational.
